    摘要: Apparatus for continuously separating sulfur from an aqueous sulfur suspension which is heated above the melting point of sulfur. The apparatus comprises a pressure vessel having heating and stirring devices in its upper part, the lower part of the vessel serving as a settling tank where sulfur is precipitated out of the aqueous solution and withdrawn through an outlet in the bottom of the vessel. Inclined separator plates extend within an outer annular chamber formed between the vessel and heating device. Intermediate the upper and lower parts of the vessel is a substantially horizontal, shallow conical partition which has apertures or slots therein to permit the suspension to pass from the upper part to the lower part. A steam-heated jacket surrounds the vessel. Pressure sensing devices are utilized to maintain the level of the water in the top part and the boundary surface between the water phase and the sulfur phase in the bottom part at desired heights. The pressure sensing devices also control the withdrawal of sludge at the interface between the water phase and sulfur phase as a function of the differential pressure above and below the interface.

    摘要: In a process for manufacturing sulphuric acid by catalytic conversion of gaseous sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide in the presence of dry air and under high pressure, the improvement comprising feeding the converted gas stream under high pressure to an absorbing unit, circulating essentially sulphur dioxide-free sulphuric acid through the absorbing unit to absorb the sulphur trioxide and unconverted sulphur dioxide from said converted gas stream, depressurizing the acid, simultaneously stripping the sulphur dioxide from the acid by means of air or a sulphur dioxide-free gas and removing moisture from said air or sulphur dioxide-free gas by means of said acid, cooling the resulting essentially sulphur dioxide-free acid and recirculating at least part of it to the absorbing unit. In a preferred embodiment, the process comprises the additional step of condensing part of the sulphur trioxide and unconverted sulphur dioxide constituting the converted gas stream and feeding the remainder to the absorbing unit. The condensate is partly or wholly recovered as a product or injected in the sulphuric acid streams.
