摘要: A shock tube connector system comprises a substantially cylindrical detonator having a longitudinal axis a block body receiving the detonator therein, and an end cap. The detonator includes an axisymmetric exterior shell including a cylindrical main section, a cylindrical explosive end portion having a diameter less than the diameter of the main section, and a transition portion connecting the main section and the explosive end portion of the shell. An explosive charge is contained within the explosive end portion of the shell and is distributed along the longitudinal length of the explosive end portion. The explosive charge preferable comprises two portions of lead azide or a first charge portion of lead azide and PETN and a second charge portion of PETN. An initiating shock tube is operatively connected to the explosive charge via a delay element. The block body includes a housing within which the main section of the detonator is received. A tube holder connected to one end of the housing includes a base member having a bore within which the explosive end portion of the detonator is received. The tube holder is T-shaped and includes a pair of engaging flanges spaced from the base member on laterally opposite sides of the base member to define therebetween pair of engaging slots extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the detonator and alongside the explosive end of the detonator received in the bore. Each engaging slot is adapted to frictionally grip at least four shock tubes alongside the explosive end of the detonator with the longitudinal axes of the shock tubes substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the detonator. The end cap is connected to the other end of the housing and secures the detonator within the block body.

摘要: A signal transmission fuse is made of a tube (36) which encases a support tape (14) having a reactive coating (18′) which is adhered to one side of the tape by a binder. A method of making the signal transmission fuse includes depositing on the support tape (14) a reactive paint (18) including a binder, which paint dries to form a reactive coating (18′). The coated support tape (14′) is then folded, i.e., formed into a channel configuration, to provide an inner concave side of the tape on which the reactive coating (18′) has been disposed. The coated support tape is then enclosed, e.g., within an extruded plastic tube (36). One side of the support tape may be made of a first material (14a) to which the reactive coating adheres, and a second side may be made of a second material (14b) which bonds or adheres to the inner surface (36a) of the plastic tube (36) enclosing the coated support tape (14′). The binder causes even high loadings of the reactive coating (18′) to adhere to the coated support tape (14′) to prevent reactive material migration. The support tape also shields the reactive material from the hot, freshly extruded surrounding plastic tube (36) during manufacture.

摘要: A gun system in one arrangement includes a first carrier including a detonating cord and a second carrier including a detonating cord. An adapter couples the first and second carriers, with the adapter including an explosive coupled to the detonating cord of one of the first and second carriers. The explosive is positioned in a reduced housing portion of the adapter. The reduced housing portion of the adapter has a first outer diameter less than an inner diameter of the first carrier to provide a predetermined annular space between the reduced adapter portion and the inner diameter of the first carrier. At least one of the detonating cords in the first and second carriers is attached to a retainer element, and the retainer element is placed in close proximity to the explosive to maintain an axial position of the detonating cord to reduce separation between the detonating cord and the explosive. In addition, the explosive is placed some axial distance away from sensitive elements in the adapter, such as sealing elements and connector elements, to protect the sensitive elements from detonation of the explosive.

摘要: A heat transfer delay for providing a delay time in propellant, pyrotechnic, and explosive devices, and a method of delaying production of a non-detonating thermal output with the heat transfer delay. A representative delay is in the form of a housing having a first heat source cavity, a second heat source cavity, and a heat transfer cavity connecting the first and second heat source cavities. A pyrotechnic heat source is placed in thermal contact with the first heat source cavity, and a non-detonating autoignition material is placed in thermal contact with the second heat source cavity. Upon ignition and combustion or reaction, the pyrotechnic heat source generates an amount of heat sufficient to heat the first heat source cavity to a temperature sufficiently high to cause a transfer of a sufficient amount of heat through the heat transfer cavity to the second heat source cavity to heat it to a temperature sufficiently high to ignite the non-detonating autoignition material, and produce a non-detonating thermal output therefrom, where the heat transfer bridge conducts heat at a rate such that a delay time of at least about 0.5 second elapses between ignition of the heat source and ignition of the non-detonating autoignition material.

摘要: A non-detonating heat transfer initiator. A representative heat transfer initiator is in the form of a heat transfer control medium, having a heat input portion and a heat output portion, and a non-detonating autoignition material, having an autoignition temperature, in thermal contact with the heat output portion. When heat is applied to the heat input portion, a transfer of heat through the heat transfer control medium to the heat output portion results, heating the heat output portion, such that, upon application of a sufficient amount of heat to the heat input portion, the heat output portion is heated to the autoignition temperature of the non-detonating autoignition material, igniting the non-detonating autoignition material ignites, thus producing a non-detonating thermal output.

摘要: A detonating cord has a core of highly brisant PBXN-8 explosive surrounded by an inner braided layer of polyamide yarn, a flexible sealing sleeve of silicone rubber coated with glue, and an outer braided layer of polyamide yarn adhered to the sealing sleeve. Booster cups may be crimped to opposite ends of detonating cord to place booster charges adjacent the core to assure more reliable detonation of associated ordnance. The method of manufacture of detonating cord calls for providing a core of explosive PBXN-8 slurry, weaving an inner braided layer of polyamide yarn on the core, squeezing moisture out of the core of explosive PBXN-8 slurry during the weaving of the inner braided layer, applying a flexible sleeve of silicone rubber on the inner braided layer, coating glue on the flexible sleeve, and weaving an outer braided layer of polyamide yarn on the glue. Optionally, squeezing the core of explosive PBXN-8 slurry between rollers may be desirable to further remove excess moisture. The detonating cord of this invention provides safe, reliable, and non-electric detonation of boostered or boosterless insensitive warheads or shaped charges distributed along a line. The detonating cord of this invention: (a) withstands severe dynamic loading, (b) survives extreme environmental and logistics conditions, survives landing over razor sharp wire obstacles like triple standard concertina, and (c) meets all US DOD IM requirements of MIL-STD-2105 and NAVSYSCOMINST 8010.5.
