    摘要: Primary hydroxyl groups in a substrate having both primary and secondary hydroxyl groups can be selectively oxidized to carbaldehyde and/or carboxyl groups by contacting the substrate with a cyclic nitroxyl compound in the presence of a peroxosulfate as a co-oxidant and by carrying out the reaction at a temperature below 30° C. and at a pH below 9. The process is halogen-free and metal-free and is especially suitable for oxidizing polysaccharides.

    摘要: There is herein disclosed a process for preparing a carboxypolysaccharide by oxidizing a polysaccharide with a combination of a transition metal compound and an oxidizing agent, said process comprising the step of separating the transition metal from a reaction mixture with a chelating agent. According to the present invention, the transition metal can be removed to a low concentration of less than 100 ppm from an aqueous solution including the transition metal and the tricarboxypolysaccharide. The process of the present invention is important to reduce the loss of a transition metal catalyst such as the ruthenium catalyst and to industrially manufacture a purified tricarboxypolysaccharide.

    摘要: The invention provides a method for the oxidation of carbohydrates with periodate in an aqueous medium, with which method a less than equivalent amount of periodate is used and the periodate is regenerated during the reaction in a separate reaction chamber. The periodate is preferably regenerated electrochemically. The oxidation leads to dialdehyde carbohydrates in which advantageously 30-85% of the available diol groups are oxidized to dialdehyde groups.
