Abstract:
A system for separating the mill starch fraction in a corn wet milling operation into a protein enriched stream and a starch enriched stream to obtain therefrom a protein-rich product and a starch-rich product. The system utilizes only hydrocyclones arranged in a plurality of separation stages that are divided into two separation zones. The mill starch is fed sequentially through the two separation zones under controlled conditions so as to obtain a protein-rich product from one separation zone and a starch-rich product from the other separation zone.
Abstract:
A method for the separation of wheat gluten and wheat starch. A mixture containing wheat starch, wheat protein and water is treated in a hydrocyclone apparatus. The gluten agglomerates in the hydrocyclones and is carried along in the overflow fraction. The bulk of the starch is contained in a fraction separated at the tapping point.

IN AT LEAST SOME OF THE CONTACTING STAGES, THE LIQUID CONTAINING EXTRACTED STARCH, SEPARATED FROM THE SOLIDS, BEFORE TRANSFER TO THE NEXT PRECEDING CONTACTING STAGE IS CENTRIFUGED TO SEPARATE A CONCENTRATED STARCH MILK, AND THAT MILK IS FED TO THE REFINING SECTION FROM THE WASHING SECTION. A PROCESS FOR SEPARATING GLUTEN FROM STARCH IN A PRETREATED DOUGH MADE FROM FLOUR AND WATER. A PUMP HAS AN INLET AND AN OUTLET AND A FIRST PIPE FOR LEADING THE PRETREATED DOUGH TO THE INLET. A SCREEN CONNECTED TO THE OUTLET BY A SECOND PIPE SEPARATES THE GLUTEN AND WATER. A THIRD PIPE LEADS THE WATER SEPARATED FROM THE GLUTEN FROM THE SCREEN AND A FOURTH PIPE LEADS THE GLUTEN SEPARATED FROM THE SCREEN. A PREFORATED PALTE LOCATED BETWEEN THE OUTLET FROM SAID PUMP AND THE INLET TO THE SCREEN IS PROVIDED THROUGH WHICH THE GLUTEN LUMPS ARE PRESSED BY THE AID OF THE WATER. A SECOND SERIES OF ELEMENTS AS ABOVE IS CONNECTED TO THE FOURTH PIPE AND ADDITIONAL SERIES AS DESIRED SIMILARLY CONNECTED. ADDITIONAL MEANS ARE PROVIDED TO SUPPLY WATER TO THE SECOND PIPES. THE GLUTEN WHEN PRESSES THROUGH THE RESPECTIVE PASSAGES IS FIRST GIVEN A SHAPE OF A THIN-WALLED TUBE OR BLISTER WHICH IS THEN TORN BY THE ACTION OF THE LIQUID UNDER PRESSURE INTO THIN THREADS OR BANDS WHICH AFTER THE GLUTEN HAS LEFT THE PASSAGES AGAIN COLLECT INTO LUMPS OF A POROUS SPONGE-LIKE STRUCTURE, SO THAT THE GLUTEN SHALL HAVE LARGE SURGBACES OF CONTACT WITH THE WATER, WHICH FACILITATES AND ACCELERATES REMOVAL OF THE STARCH GRANULES.
Abstract:
In a process utilizing a battery of hydrocyclones for separating wheat starch and gluten contained in an aqueous wheat flour slurry, the slurry is supplied to a first section of the hydrocyclone battery, in which a gluten fraction is removed as overflow, and the starch-rich fraction from such first battery section is first treated to reduce its pentosan content and is then treated in a second section of the hydrocyclone battery which delivers a concentrated starch fraction as underflow.
