The present invention provides a high tensile cold-rolled steel sheet having superior ductility, strain age-hardening characteristics, and crash resistance properties, and also provides a manufacturing method therefor. As a particular means, a thin cold-rolled steel sheet containing 0.05% to 0.30% of C, 0.4% to 2.0% of Si, 0.7% to 3.0% of Mn, 0.08% or less of P, 0.02% or less of Al, and 0.0050% to 0.0250% of N on a mass % basis is manufactured in which N/Al is 0.3 or more. This thin cold-rolled steel sheet is heated to a temperature between (an Ac1 transformation point) and (an Ac3 transformation point+50° C.), is cooled at a cooling rate of 5 to 150° C./second in the range of at least 600 to 500° C., and is held in the temperature range of 350 to 500° C. This steel sheet has superior ductility, strain age-hardening characteristics having a &Dgr;TS of 50 MPa or more, and crash resistance properties.

Compositions and methods of processing have been developed to optimize the impact toughness of heat-treated, low-alloy steels. The disclosed ranges of steel composition provide a lightly-tempered martensitic microstructure in which grain-refining precipitate forming elements such as titanium and aluminum are essentially absent and the content of iron/alloy carbides retained through the hardening operation is minimized through the application of an appropriate heat treatment wherein austenitizing takes place at temperatures of about 900° C. or above followed by quenching and lightly tempering at about 180° C.

Systems and methods are described for iron aluminum alloys. A composition includes iron, aluminum and manganese. A method includes providing an alloy including iron, aluminum and manganese; and processing the alloy. The systems and methods provide advantages because additions of manganese to iron aluminum alloys dramatically increase the fluidity of the alloys prior to solidification during casting.

A dispersion hardened FeCrAl-alloy and method of its production which includes in one step, forming a nitride dispersion in a FeCr-alloy, whereby this nitride dispersion includes one or more of the basic elements hafnium, titanium and zirconium, and, in a later step aluminum is added to the nitrided FeCr-alloy. The unfavorable formation of aluminum nitrides has thereby been avoided by adding aluminum after the nitriding. A FeCrAl-alloy with high high temperature strength and high creep strength has thereby been achieved.

A method has been developed for surface modifications of high temperature resistant alloys, such as FeCrAl alloys, in order to increase their resistance to corrosion at high temperatures. Coating it with a Ca-containing compound before heat-treating builds a continuos uniform and adherent layer on the surface of the alloy, that the aluminum depletion of the FeCrAl alloy is reduced under cyclic thermal stress. By this surface modification the resistance to high temperature corrosion of the FeCrAl alloy and its lifetime are significantly increased.
