摘要: The strength properties of chemical cellulose pulp (particularly kraft pulp) are improved by substituting a cold impregnation soak for conventional impregnation procedures. After steaming, wood chips are soaked in an alkaline liquid at a temperature of about 80-110° C. (preferably 80-100° C., or 90-105° C.) for between one-half-72 hours (typically about 2-4 hours) at a pressure of about 0-15 bar (preferably about 1-5 bar), to dissolve at least about 8% of the wood (preferably about 10-20%) and at least about 15% of the lignin. The alkaline liquid used preferably contains sulfide (e.g. black liquor, green liquor, white liquor, or mixtures thereof), but almost any alkaline liquid having an alkali concentration of about 1.0 mole of NaOH/liter or less (typically about 0.75 m/l or less) is suitable. The wood chips are then raised to a cooking temperature of about 145-180° C. and cooked to produce the cellulose chemical pulp. There may be an intermediate step, between soaking and raising the cooking temperature, of heating the wood chips to a temperature of about 110-150° C. (preferably about 120-140° C.) for about 10-90 minutes (preferably about 10-30 minutes). Alternatively or additionally the majority of the dissolved lignin (and/or other solids) may be removed before raising the wood chips to cooking temperature. The system for treating the wood chips need only include a low pressure soaking vessel (with an associated pump or other transfer device) in addition to conventional equipment.

摘要: A pulp bleaching line has an initial stage using gaseous bleaching reagent followed by its subsequent stages without intervening washing or pumping steps. The pulp is transported from the initial stage through a mixer in which the pulp is heated and/or dosed with bleaching chemicals and through the subsequent stage by retained gas pressure developed in the initial stage. A portion of the retained gas may be separated and purged from the mixer through a pressure regulating device to optimize pressure for processes which follow the mixer/heater. This permits elimination of a washer and pump normally provided between the initial reactor and subsequent bleaching stage.

摘要: The flow of a liquid slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material (e.g. wood chips) in a vertical vessel is made more uniform by providing a plurality of vertically spaced sets of either substantially continuous or discontinuous protrusions which extend inwardly from the internal surface of the vessel a maximum distance of between about 2-12 inches. A preferred vessel is a continuous or batch digester. The protrusions may have an arcuate, rectangular, isosceles or scalene triangular, right triangular, or trapezoidal cross-section, and may be spaced from each other vertically between about 1-12 feet, and have a height of between about 1-3 feet. Discontinuous protrusions have a preferred arcuate spacing of between 1-10 feet.

摘要: In the feeding of a slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material to a digester (continuous or batch) in the production of chemical pulp, one of the tanks used in the feed system (which preferably includes a high pressure feeder) may be eliminated without consequent loss of its function by providing a single tank with the combined functions of controlling the level of liquid in a slurrying conduit which supplies slurry to a slurry pump, and storing and substantially continuously supplying liquid to a make-up liquid pump connected to the digester. The single tank preferably surrounds the slurrying conduit and is substantially concentric, and in liquid communication, with it. A gap of 3-48 inches may be provided between the bottom of the conduit and a connection to the slurry pump. A screen or strainer may be provided in the gap, which is substantially surrounded by the tank. The return system from the low pressure outlet of the high pressure feeder to the slurrying device (like the conduit and tank surrounding it, or a conventional clip tube) may be devoid of one or more of an in-line drainer, level tank, centrifugal separator, and surge tank.

摘要: A system and method for feeding comminuted cellulosic fibrous material such as wood chips to the top of a treatment vessel such as a continuous digester provide enhanced simplicity, operability, and maintainability by eliminating the high pressure transfer device conventionally used in the prior art. Instead of a high pressure transfer device the steamed and slurried chips are pressurized using one or more slurry pumps located at least thirty feet below the top of the treatment vessel and for pressurizing the slurry to a pressure of at least about 10 bar gauge. A return line from the top of the digester may, but need not necessarily, be operatively connected to the one or more pumps and if connected to the pumps, the liquid in the return line may be cooled to a temperature at which it will not flash during handling. Recirculation loops may be established associated with one or all of the slurry pumps to facilitate startup. A static flow splitter may be provided to split the flow from the last pump to two or more digesters.

摘要: Chemical pulp is produced by cooking comminuted cellulosic fibrous material (e.g. wood chips) in a continuous digester or batch digesters or produce brown stock, and washing the brown stock in a brown stock washer to produce chemical pulp, oxygen delignifying the chemical pulp at medium consistency, and then screening the oxygen delignified pulp to produce an accept fraction and a shive-containing reject fraction. Drawbacks inherent in the prior art are overcome by directly transporting (i.e. without refining or accessory oxygen delignification) the shive-containing rejects fraction to the main fiber line before oxygen delignification (e.g. to just before a mixer for the oxygen delignification stage, to between the brown stock washer and mixer, to a coarse screen between the digester and the brown stock washer, and/or to a washer for the coarse rejects from the coarse screen). The oxygen delignification stage may include at least two upflow vessels, of different first and second stages, with a mixer before each stage, and at least one of the vessels includes a multiple feeding device. Gas separation can also be practiced in one or all of the oxygen delignification vessels. The screening stage may be provided before or after a washer for washing the oxygen delignified pulp.

摘要: A method in connection with continuous cooking of chips, comprising impregnation of the chips with impregnation liquid in an impregnation vessel (3) and cooking of the impregnated chips in a digester (4), the impregnation vessel and the digester being connected to each other by means of a transfer circulation, which partly, via a feed line (25), feeds the chips from an outlet end (27) of the impregnation vessel to the top of the digester for separation of free liquid in a separator (28), and partly, via a return line (26), feeds separated liquid from the top of the digester to the outlet end of the impregnation vessel for use as transfer liquid for the impregnated chips, besides which cooking liquid is added to the chips in the top of the digester. According to the invention, as a first part, less than 100%, preferably less than 95% and more preferred less than 90% of the liquid which is separated from the chips in the transfer circulation, is recirculated to be used as transfer liquid.
