In a hinge device for inclined tiltable windows with external overlapping cover rails, the base plate of the main frame supports through a pair of pivotable links an intermediate member which is movable in a parallelogramlike--or pantographlike--manner and itself carries a pivot pin on which the sash base plate of the hinge device is journalled. The rotation of said base plate about the pivot pin is co-ordinated with the movement of the intermediate member by way of a coupling link that through pivot pins is connected with the sash base plate and the pivotable link adjacent the coupling link, respectively. The coupling link makes it possible in a simple and cheap manner to reliably controlling the hing parts during the full tilting of the sash in both directions.

[Class 65(ii)] In a hinge adapted to mount a window on a horizontal axis and to provide a braking effect during at least a part of the opening movement thereof, a lever transmits a braking force derived from the weight of the window, the arrangement being such that said force is greater than the braking force which would occur if the window were supported directly by a braking surface. A window 2 carries a pin 15 pivotally supported by a sector plate 6 which is pivoted on a pin 5 fixed to the frame 1. In a partly open position of the window (as shown), a pin 19, fixed to the frame and projecting through a slot 21 in the plate 6, engages a lever 9 pivoted at 8 to the plate 6 and thus urges a brake surface 11 on the lever against an arcuate flange 12 fixed to the window concentrically to the pin 15. Further pivoting of the window about the pin 5 is thus braked. In a modification the pin 19 is carried by the lever and cooperates with a surface provided on the frame.

A double-pivot door hinge is disclosed that is particularly suited for household appliances such as refrigerators or microwave ovens. The hinge arrangement allows the appliance door to be opened a full 180 degrees from its closed position without coming into contact with a flush mounted wall such as an abutting kitchen cabinet. The hinge has a first pivot pin and a stop arrangement which allows a door to be swung outwardly until a 90-degree position is reached whereby the stop arrangement is engaged. Upon further outward movement, the assembly shifts to a second hinge pin until a 180-degree position is reached. The movement from the 90-degree position to a 180-degree position requires the overcoming of a spring force of the hinge arrangement.
