    摘要: A torque measuring device for top drives, which includes plates mounted to a top drive. A torque measuring pin and a hinge pin can be engaged with the plates and a torque slide assembly. Bosses can be connected to the top drive, and can have the torque measuring pin engaged therethrough to restrain vertical and axial movement between the plates. A boss can be connected to the top drive and engaged with the torque measuring pin to bend the torque measuring pin when torque is applied to the top drive. One or more bosses can be connected to the top drive, and can have the hinge pin engaged therethrough to hinge the plates to the top drive. A strain gauge sensor can be engaged with the torque measuring pin. A controller can be in communication with the strain gauge sensor to receive signals therefrom.

    摘要: A method of automatic drilling of a well with coil tubing or drill pipe tubing utilizes AC motors coupled to variable frequency drives controlled by a programmable logic controller. For example, a coil tube injector is supported in a mast for injecting coil tube from a reel and into a wellbore for drilling the wellbore. The AC motors for the injector are driven for controlling a rate of injection of coil tube by the injector for maintaining at least one drilling parameter such as weight-on-bit, differential mud pressure or rate of penetration. The AC motor for the reel is also controlled for driving the reel and maintaining a relative rate of coil tube supplied from the reel to the injector. Drawworks and a top drive supported by the draworks can also be equipped with AC motors and variable frequency drives for controlling a drilling rate for maintaining at least one of the drilling parameters.

    摘要: A drilling rig is provided which is adapted to selectively drill using coiled tubing and jointed-pipe. The rig includes a base, a mast, a top drive slidably mounted to said mast for performing jointed-pipe operations, and a tubing injector for performing coiled tubing operations, mounted on said mast for selective movement from a first position in which the injector is in line with the mast and a second position in which the injector is out of line with the mast to permit jointed-pipe operations by the top drive. The rig is uniquely suited to easily and quickly assemble bottom hole assemblies (BHA's), and to connect such BHA's to coiled tubing.

    摘要: A controller provides an automatic bit protection sequence for an autodriller that can be initiated during the initial stage of set down of the bit within the formation. The automatic protection sequence establishes a setpoint for a parameter of interest (such as weight on bit, ROP, torque) associated with operation of the drilling system and then initiates a gradual increase in that parameter in order to achieve the setpoint. The bit protection sequence may be adjustable so that varying degrees of gradualness may be selected. The controller of the autodriller may also be provided with measured data for torque, rate of penetration (ROP) and/or the differential pressure of the mud motor of the drilling system. Each of these parameters is provided with a predetermined setpoint, and each may be selected as the controlling parameter for operation of the autodriller.

    摘要: A hole drilling apparatus facilitates the task of drilling holes in the ground at predetermined locations for the planting of replacement Christmas tree seedlings. The hole drilling apparatus includes a bifurcated frame having a base frame portion and a working frame portion pivotally mounted on the base frame portion. A spring mechanism operatively engages the working frame portion and the base frame portion to bias the working frame portion into a raised pivoted position. The working frame portion pivotally carries a work plate having an auger mechanism mounted thereon for pivotal movement in a vertical manner with the working frame portion to advance the auger mechanism into the ground during operation to drill a hole. The spring mechanism can be repositioned to release the biasing force exerted thereby and allow the apparatus to be converted into the compact transport position with the working frame portion lowered against the base frame portion to reduce the profile of the apparatus. The spring mechanism can then be used to brake the front tire of the apparatus to prevent the apparatus from rolling around during transport thereof. The performance of the auger mechanism is also improved with the addition of an angled cutting bit detachably mounted on the cutting edge of the auger flighting. The cutting bit is angled downwardly away from the shaft of the auger so that the outside edge of the bit will engage the ground before the edge of the bit next to the auger shaft.
