摘要： A mounting structure for rolling cutter assemblies, especially gauge cutters, is disclosed wherein a saddle on a support structure is provided with a first sloping wall, a base portion joining said sloping wall and an abutment region facing the sloping wall. A wedge block is seated on the base portion of the saddle and has a second sloping wall facing and converging with the first sloping wall. The ends of the rolling cutter shaft have side walls that also converge and these side walls abuttingly engage the first and second sloping walls. Means are provided for holding and urging said shaft on to said saddle. The rolling cutter and shaft assembly may be easily removed by removal of the fastener means and wedge block. The disclosed saddle seat arrangement provides for an easy method of replacement of the rolling cutter assembly while the cutter head is still in the bore hole formation.

摘要： A big hole drilling bit of the type utilizing a plurality of roller cutters mounted for cutting in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the bit. Regrinding of cuttings is reduced by providing baffles in association with individual roller cutters to prevent the normal pumping action of the cutters from depositing their own cuttings in front of them. Baffles may merely disrupt the pumping action of the roller cutters or they may be designed to utilize the pumping action to assist in transporting cuttings toward a pickup opening through which the transport of the cuttings to the earth''s surface is initiated.

摘要： A rock-boring machine of the type comprising rotatable headplate having a plurality of cutting units mounted on the front face of the headplate. Each cutting unit includes a cutter journalled for rotation on a shaft. The ends of the shaft are hexagonal in cross-section and are supported in complementally-slotted saddles to prevent rotation of the shaft in the saddles. The shaft is locked in the saddles by means of a single locking member at each end of the shaft. Each locking member is secured to a saddle and is adapted to bear against one of the surfaces of the hexagonal ends of the shaft.
