Abstract: A gas compressor is provided which can be utilized in a jet engine for propulsion of a flight vehicle at velocities ranging from static to very high Mach numbers. The jet engine includes a housing with an inlet, a mixing chamber in fluid communication with the inlet, a diffuser section in fluid communication with the mixing chamber, a combustion chamber in fluid communication with the diffuser section and an outlet in communication with the combustion chamber. Auxiliary gas injection nozzles located downstream of the mixing chamber direct a high velocity gas stream toward the outlet to induce a region of sufficiently low pressure within the mixing chamber to cause a supersonic flow of gas from the inlet section through the mixing chamber. Cryogenic fuel is injected into the mixing chamber to modify the stagnation enthalpy, pressure and temperature of the supersonic flow therethrough. Fuel is injected into the combustion chamber where the mixture of the compressed air flow from the diffuser and the fuel is ignited to produce thrust. The outlet is adjustable to provide the amount of back pressure required in the combustion chamber for stable operation.

Abstract: An engine including a self-starting engine compressor unit comprising a burner duct defining a converging-diverging inlet at its forward end, a converging exhaust nozzle at its rear end, and a combustion chamber therebetween; a fuel injection device for injecting fuel under pressure axially through the throat of the inlet into the combustion chamber to draw air therewith into the chamber; and preheater means for heating the chamber to a predetermined temperature. The compressor unit may include a bypass duct encircling the burner duct with an inlet opening forward of the inlet to the burner duct and a converging exhaust opening rearward of the exhaust nozzle so that air will be drawn through the bypass duct by the jet pumping action of the exhaust gases from the burner duct in combination with the exhaust opening in the bypass duct. The fuel injection device may be equipped with pressure responsive means for transferring the point of injection from forward of the throat of the inlet of the burner duct to a point rearward of the throat and within the combustion chamber. The compressor unit may be embodied in a jet engine as a start stage with intermediate and final ram-jet type stages.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, a system for altering fluid flow includes a main body having a first fluid flowing therethrough, a plurality of conduits disposed within the main body to form a plurality of flow paths, and a nozzle directing a second fluid through the innermost conduit. The second fluid has a greater velocity than the first fluid. Abstract: The ejector ramjet engine is a propulsion duct having normal augmented ramjet elements of an inlet, mixer, diffuser, combustor and exit nozzle. At the upstream end of the mixer an injector assembly is mounted in the fluid flow path to form an ejector. The injector assembly has one or more injector rings which have alternatively offset injector exhaust nozzles or slots to direct fluid toward the engine internal wall or the engine longitudinal axis respectively to improve fluid mixing for use of a shorter mixer section. The supply of fluid to the injector exhaust nozzles may be by fuel flow pumps and other elements connected to injector chambers in the injector ring or by an injector combustor external to the mixer. A movable plug is mounted on the center body fairing to provide adjustment for varying velocity and pressure conditions within the engine over the operating environment. This velocity/pressure regulation results in increased engine thrust and specific impulse performance. The diffuser has guide vanes to allow more rapid diffusion of the fluid flow.

Abstract: A momentum compression ramjet engine employing energy from a high velocity stream of gaseous fuel injected into the open inlet of the engine to accelerate and compress the air by momentum exchange.
