    摘要: A method for manufacturing a splined member, such as a male or female splined shaft, having a low friction coating applied thereto includes the initial step of providing a length of cylindrical stock having a predetermined outer diameter. The end of the cylindrical stock is then machined by any conventional process to form a preform including an end portion and a neck portion. Next, the end portion of the preform is subjected to a cold working process by a conventional roll forming machine or similar tool to form a plurality of splines about the circumference thereof. The cold working process is effective to re-shape the end portion of the preform to form the splines without the removal of any material therefrom. As a result, each of the splines is formed having a generally involute cross sectional shape, wherein opposed sides of the splines are relatively gently curved between the inner roots and the outer ends thereof. The splines define a major diameter that is somewhat larger than the initial outer diameter of the preform and a minor diameter that is somewhat smaller than the initial outer diameter of the preform. Thereafter, the splines and the neck portion of the preform are coated with a conventional low friction material to form the splined tube shaft. A broaching machine or similar apparatus is used to precisely shape the solidified low friction material about the splines.

    摘要: A steering shaft assembly for a vehicle uses a ball spline as a slip member. In general, the slip member includes an outer race member, an inner race member, and a pair of end return members. The outer race member includes one or more grooves or recesses, each groove forming an outer race. The inner race member includes a corresponding number of grooves and inner bores to form an outer race track and inner race tracks, respectively. Each outer race and corresponding outer race track form an outer ball recirculating track for transmitting torque through the recirculating ball bearings. Each inner race track forms an inner ball recirculating track for providing a circumferential path for the ball bearings. In one embodiment, the inner race member and end return members are generally cylindrical in cross sectional shape that is disposed within the outer race member. The outer race member, inner race member and end return member can be any desired cross sectional shape. For example, the inner race member and return end members can include one or more projections extending outwardly to the outer race member. The slip member can be used a steering shaft assembly that is in production by forming grooves in the outer race member to form the outer races and inserting ball recirculating track members within a corresponding number of slots formed in an existing yoke tube.

    摘要: The invention relates to a propeller shaft assembly for connecting the front gearbox output to the drive input of a rear axle drive of a passenger car. Said propeller shaft assembly comprises at least two propeller shaft portions 9, 10. Both are supported by an intermediate bearing 11 arranged in the connecting region. At the gearbox output end, there is provided a first joint 12. In the connecting region between the two propeller shaft portions 9, 10, there is provided a third joint 14. All joints 12, 13, 14 are provided in the form of constant velocity fixed joints. Additionally, towards the ends, there is provided a plunging element 16, 30 which is provided in the form of a rolling contact member guide which rollingly permit displacements along the longitudinal axis 32 and which additionally effect the transmission of torque. This assembly prevents any vibrational excitement either at the gearbox output end or at the axle drive end from reaching the propeller shaft assembly. As a result, the intermediate bearing 11 is not affected by vibrations. In this way, there are achieved quiet running characteristics, and any noise in the form of structure-borne sound is not transmitted.
