A regenerable desiccant filter assembly, for use in a vehicle lamp housing, includes a hollow body defining a chamber therein, the hollow body having an inlet and an outlet formed therein to allow air to flow from an area outside said hollow body into and through the hollow body. A substrate, which is a nonwoven fiber mat, is housed within the hollow body; and a regenerable liquid desiccant composition is distributed on the substrate. Preferably, the fibers making up the substrate have hollow internal cavities formed therein, and extended openings formed in the sides thereof in communication with the internal cavities. Preferably, the desiccant composition is an alkali halide or an alkaline earth halide. Most preferably the desiccant composition is selected from the group consisting of lithium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium chloride. In specific embodiments, the desiccant filter may be combined with a bulb shield or with a bulb socket member. A method of dehydrating air flowing into a ventilation opening in a vehicle lamp housing, using the inventive apparatus, is also disclosed.

A central luminous intensity position M of the additional light distribution pattern P(H1) for a high beam is set to be lower than a horizontal cutoff line CL1 of the light distribution pattern P(L) for a low beam by approximately 1 degree such that it is suitable for enhancing the distance visibility during the high beam irradiation.

The system is provided with vehicle halting state detecting means for detecting a halted state in which the vehicle is halted or traveling at a very low speed, and illumination controlling means for turning off or dimming an auxiliary lamp when the halted state is continued for more than a prescribed time period. When the vehicle is halted with the auxiliary lamp deflected, and the halted state is continued for more than the prescribed time period, the auxiliary lamp is turned off or dimmed, and thus other cars and pedestrians are prevented from being dazzled by the auxiliary lamp, and the trailing car may be prevented from having a sense of insecurity.

A shade body portion 22A surrounding the discharge bulb 18 is colored blue. An object of the present invention is to prevent dazzlement from being caused by beams of light directly emitted from a light source, without requiring any bulky component member. A vehicular headlamp 1 comprises a light source 7, a reflector 6, a cut-line forming shade 9 for forming a cut line, and a condenser lens 8. The cut-line forming shade cuts off some beams of light emitted from the light source and reflected by the reflector and forms shaped beams of light. The condenser lens projects the shaped beams of light forwards and radiates them according to a light distribution pattern. An opening is formed between the condenser lens and the reflector. A dazzling-light cutting shade 15 for cutting off beams of light emitted toward a region above the light distribution pattern is disposed between the light source and the opening.
