    摘要: A bullet seating die for use with an ammunition reloading press, the die including a member having an elongate bore for receiving a cartridge and a bullet seating member mounted in the bore. The bullet seating member is shiftable longitudinally within the bore by operation of a micrometer screw. Coacting grooves and a spring biased member produce a manually and audibly sensed click stop that indicates to the user preselected intervals of adjustment of the bullet seating member in the bore.

    摘要: An improved process for joining a shell having a plastic base portion to a cartridge case within a joining region. The joining region extends along a plastic base portion of said shell when it is inserted into the neck portion of the casing and has an upper and lower limit. The base portion is being axially inserted into the neck portion of the casing while being subjected to a relative rotational movement. A glueing or synthetic substance having flow capability is introduced into the neck portion of the casing. This plastic or glueing substance after hardening adheres more strongly to the inner surface of the neck portion than on said plastic base portion. The process includes making a groove in the plastic base portion extending at least partially between said upper and lower limit; dosing a predetermined region of said neck portion; thereafter axially introducing the plastic base portion of the shell into the neck portion while imparting a relative rotation thereto; transporting at least a portion of said dose of glueing or synthetic substance due to translational and centrifugal forces into the groove; and letting the synthetic or glueing substance harden therein.

    摘要: A small arms bullet with controlled flight characteristics fireable at high velocities from conventional small arms. The bullet has a projecting spike tip forming a supersonic shock wave cone. The bullet travels inside this shock wave cone and has low aerodynamic drag at supersonic velocities. The bullet is light weight and has a blunt drag face providing a high aerodynamic drag configuration for the bullet at subsonic flight velocities to rapidly decelerate the bullet after a preselected initial combat range, thereby reducing its long range danger to bystanders and property. Within the preselected combat range the shape and velocity characteristics of the bullet provide high ''''stopping power'''' yet a reduced lethality.

    摘要: A pellet for an air gun or the like is provided having a head portion made of metal or metal containing plastics material and a shank extending rearwardly of the head portion, and a skirt portion secured to the head portion by the shank, said skirt portion having at least two sections which are larger in diameter than the head portion and being made of substantially elastic plastics material, for slidably engaging a gun barrel bore surface. The head portion provides weight for the skirt portion during flight. Preferably the skirt portion is made from plastics material with a low coefficient of friction and sufficient elasticity to regain its shape after deformation, such as P.T.F.E.

Exterior surfaces of the intermediate and rear elements have formed therein a plurality of inclined grooves to achieve rotation of the bullet. A base end of the rear element is concavely recessed to receive gases resulting from the combustion of powder. A threaded pin extends through the rear and intermediate elements and is threaded into the projection of the tip.

    摘要: An improved pellet form for achieving relatively high muzzle velocity when discharged from the barrel of a gas rifle, particularly a high-performance air rifle, has a pellet head portion of any suitable profile and diameter providing a free-sliding but close fit for the nominal barrel bore, e.g. the 0.177 and 0.22 standard bores, and has a conventional rearwardly-flaring skirt of conical shell form; improved early gas sealing and improved swaging of the skirt margin is induced by novel bevelling of the inner surface of the skirt margin, the trailing edge being tapered to a thin annulus, while the outer surface of the skirt has a terminal portion formed with conical apex angle greater than the apical angle pertaining to the major length portion of the skirt forward of the trailing edge. The skirt edge is initially an interference fit for a diameter comparable to the diameter across opposed rifling grooves, and is a light force fit into the nominal barrel bore diameter. Intimate molding of the skirt margin achieves rapid early sealing, preventing blow-by of gas, while drag is relatively low due to the restricted area of metal which is gas-pressed against the barrel wall. Tests verify significantly flatter trajectories and higher penetration energies for pellets according to the invention.
