Abstract: A platform, system, and method for simulating critical rock collapse of surrounding rock in underground engineering includes: four vertically arranged reaction walls defining a square reaction space, and a base mounted at a lower end opening of the wall; and a row of horizontally arranged stress loading plates at a side of each wall close to the reaction space, and a reaction beam above this space, where the reaction beam, the stress loading plate, and the base define a loading space, and the loading space is configured for placement of a surrounding rock simulation block to be tested; the stress loading plate capable of moving horizontally in a direction of the reaction wall, and the reaction beam capable of moving in a vertical direction, so as to load the surrounding rock simulation block; and the stress loading plate and the reaction beam being driven by linear motion units for movement.

Abstract: A device to intercept a falling ball and prevent a second impact in a hardness or other test of a product and a falling ball impact tester including the device are disclosed. The device includes a sensor for detecting a position of the falling ball, an interception plate defining a catching groove, and a driving member connected to the interception plate and the sensor and providing motion. The driving member can move the interception plate to a position where the catching groove is in a falling path of the falling ball or is just outside such path, according to detection by the sensor.

Abstract: A test fixture is provided for dropping an article from a height to a floor, with the article oriented in relation to the floor at a select angle. The fixture includes a column frame, an overhead beam, a carriage, first and second guy wires, first and second spools, and first and second chains. The frame supports first and second guide arms on opposing sides. The overhead beam has a distance span substantially parallel to the floor. The carriage is disposed substantially parallel to the floor and has first and second opposing guides separated by the span. The guy wires attach to the beam separated the span and pass through the guide arms. The first and second spools to receive the corresponding guy wires. The first and second chains suspend the article from the carriage above the floor. Upon release of the guy wires, the carriage falls until contact with the guide arms while the article contacts the floor. Additionally, rods connected at the ends of article and suspended from the carriage to further ensure the article's angle.

Abstract: The present invention provides a standard testing methodology for making quantitative determinations as to the chemical resistance of thermoplastics commonly used for non-disposable medical devices by evaluating the retention of tensile and/or impact properties of the thermoplastic materials after exposure to chemicals associated with healthcare grade disinfectants. Versions of the test methods may be used with any of a variety of different thermoplastic materials, each having a different stiffness or elastic modulus; and versions of the test methods may be used with any of a variety of different hospital grade cleaning agents or disinfectants. Using the methodology of embodiments of the present invention, different thermoplastic materials may be tested against different cleaners or disinfectants to provide a uniform basis for comparison. This allows those who make chemicals, polymers and medical equipment to have a uniform way of evaluating those materials for compatibility with various cleaners and disinfectants used in the medical industry to make objective comparisons, and to allow end users to make the same evaluations and comparisons.

Abstract: A method of determining shear strength of soil using a fall cone apparatus is provided. The method includes generating a first plot having graph lines defined for penetration depth values ranging from 4 to 20 mm on a first logarithmic paper, deducing a first mathematical model based on the first plot, and generating a second plot having the graph lines extended for a predefined penetration depth range based on the first mathematical model. The method further includes generating a third plot having graph lines corresponding to the extended penetration depth values defined for the W/A ratio values ranging from 0.17 to 13.3 on a second logarithmic paper, deducing a second mathematical model based on the third plot, generating a fourth plot having the graph lines extended for a predefined W/A ratio range based on the second mathematical model, and determining shear strength based on the fourth plot.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a vertical Hopkinson pressure bar test device and a test method. The device comprises a guide cylinder, an incident bar, a transmission bar, a buffer bar and a striker, and further comprises a base; side support plates arranged vertically and upwards are provided symmetrically on two sides of the base, a horizontal first lateral support plate is provided at the top between the side support plates on the two sides, three groups of horizontal second lateral support plates are provided below the first lateral support plate sequentially between the side support plates on the two sides, and each group is provided with a clamping mechanism clamping a corresponding incident bar, transmission bar or buffer bar; the surfaces of the incident bar is pasted with a first strain gauge pad and the transmission bar is pasted with a second strain gauge pad. According to the disclosure, the striking velocity is accurately controlled to render a medium or low velocity for analyzing the dynamic mechanical properties of low-wave impedance materials such as coal and light concrete, satisfying the requirements of dynamic tests on high, medium and low velocities.
