    摘要: The disclosed system is intended to supply angular and range data regarding the position of an object to be located in a reference system. The system comprises an interrogator which transmits a linearly frequency-modulated signal to a transponder disposed on the object. The transponder is provided with means for shifting the frequency of the received signal in one direction by a predetermined amount characteristic of that transponder and means for retransmitting the received signal. The interrogator further includes a pair of receiving antennas whose signals are used for forming beat signals with the transmitted signal. The interrogator is also provided with means for shifting the frequency of the beat signals in the other direction by the same amount. At least one of the shifted beat signals is applied to a frequency discriminator whose output signal is utilized for controlling the slope of the modulation signal in order to keep the frequency of the shifted beat signal constant.

    摘要: The invention relates to side-looking radar systems and more especially to high altitude airborne radar systems functioning at a high repetition frequency. In order to avoid ambiguities in regard to distance, the antenna comprises an additional channel which has a radiation pattern which has an odd symmetry about its axis and means are connected to said antenna for deriving the angular interval relative to the axis of the antenna of the direction of the obstacle corresponding to the received echoes. Gating means select the angular interval signal at the middle of the recurrence, for controlling the recurrence frequency of the radar and maintaining the ambiguous areas outside the selected observed area.

    摘要: A terrain clearance or following system that provides terrain clearance information in depth from large elevation depression angles out along the projected aircraft ground track to the horizon. The aircraft projected ground track is displayed on a cathode ray tube by a heavy along track line and the intersection of the aircraft velocity vector with the terrain is displayed by the intersection of the along track line and a flight path reference line. The range to the top of a first hill is displayed at the end of a first segment of the along track line and the distance across the valley between first and second hills is displayed as a blank space between the first and a second segment of the along track line. The range to the top of succeeding hills is displayed by additional segments of the along track line. This system operates with simultaneous display of a radar line of sight range line and a terrain clearance reference line representing an imaginary clearance plane at a selected distance below the aircraft. A down look reference line representing the range to the clearance plane at the maximum depression angle may also be displayed.

Since the motion compensation for the synthetic aperture radar is made in relation to a stabilized monopulse antenna, the imaging process for the synthetic aperture radar may be controlled in response to the angular scan rate of the antenna.

    摘要: An attack warning system for alerting ground troops or ships to the possiity of attack by enemy aircraft. The system establishes a detection shell at a range of 3 miles covering 360.degree. in azimuth and 60.degree. in elevation. The bearing measurement is obtained by a combination of antenna pattern shape and P-N Code modulation. A pair of oppositely facing receiving antennas and a pair of oppositely facing transmitting antennas located orthogonally with respect to the receiving antennas provide the 360.degree. coverage. The azimuth pattern of each antenna covers 180.degree.. The system provides target bearing information by applying different codes to each of the two opposed transmit antennas and multiply decoding the received signals.

    摘要: Selected ones of a sequence of radar reflectors disposed adjacent to a runway are oriented in such a fashion that the relative direction vector between an aircraft approaching a runway and illuminating the reflectors with its radar can be determined to be too high, too low, or too far to the right or left by failure to receive a response from those of the reflectors oriented to provide a response only within certain angles of a preferred approach vector. The glide slope orientation may be viewed directly on a radar scope, or presented as discrete indications of failure to be within the prescribed vector. Range gating the response is also disclosed.
