Abstract: A multi-mode radar system, radar signal processing methods and configuration methods, including using predetermined, range/mode-specific pushing windows to perform windowing on range and velocity object data before performing an FFT on the windowed object data matrix to generate a three-dimensional object matrix including range, velocity and angle data. The individual windows have an angular spectral response that corresponds to a combined angular coverage field of view of the transmit and receive antennas for the corresponding mode to minimize the total weighted energy outside the main lobe and to provide increasing spectral leakage outside the combined angular coverage field of view with angular offset from the main lobe to push out much of the spectral leakage into regions where leakage tolerance is high due to the corresponding combined angular coverage field of view of the transmit and receive antennas.

Abstract: One of a transmitting array antenna and a receiving array antenna includes a first antenna group and a second antenna group. The first antenna group includes one or more first antenna elements of which the phase centers of the antenna elements are laid out at each first layout spacing following a first axis direction, and a shared antenna element. The second antenna group includes a plurality of second antenna elements and the one shared antenna element, and the phase centers of the antenna elements are laid out in two columns at each second layout spacing following a second axis direction that is different from the first axis direction. The phase centers of the antenna elements included in each of the two columns differ from each other regarding position in the second axis direction.

Abstract: This document describes techniques and systems to enable a radar system to jointly detect DoA and DoD angles in multipath scenarios. In some examples, an automotive radar system includes one or more processors. The processors obtain electromagnetic (EM) energy reflected by objects and generate, based on the reflected EM energy, a two-dimensional (2D) data matrix. The 2D data matrix has a number of rows corresponding to the number of antenna elements in a transmitter array and a number of columns corresponding to the number of antenna elements in a receiver array. Using the 2D data matrix, the processors can determine DoA estimates and DoD estimates in both monostatic and bistatic reflection scenarios. By comparing the DoA estimates to the DoD estimates, the processors determine angles associated with the objects with improved angular resolution and reduced cost.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a plurality of radars and at least one processor. Each of the radars includes at least one transmitting antenna and a plurality of receiving antennas arranged as a two-dimensional array antenna. The processor converts the RF signal received by the receiving antennas into a ranging profile that records the distance between each of the receiving antennas and the target and the receiving intensity corresponding to the distance. The processor generates a voxel profile to indicate the relationship between the distance and the receiving intensity in three-dimensional space. The processor performs a point generation algorithm to generate a plurality of points in three-dimensional space according to the voxel profile and the receiving intensity threshold. The processor performs a cluster analysis algorithm to identify a plurality of target points corresponding to the target among the points to obtain the position of the target.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to a beam steering radar for use in an autonomous vehicle. The beam steering radar has a radar module with at least one beam steering antenna, a transceiver, and a controller that can cause the transceiver to perform, using the at least one beam steering antenna, a first scan of a field-of-view (FoV) with a first number of chirps in a first radio frequency (RF) signal and a second scan of the FoV with a second number of chirps in a second RF signal. The radar module also has a perception module having a machine learning-trained classifier that can detect objects in a path and surrounding environment of the autonomous vehicle based on the first number of chirps in the first RF signal and classify the objects based on the second number of chirps in the second RF signal.
