The device improves the detection properties and production efficiency of the radiation detectors. The device includes a conductive support substrate; a semiconductor sensitivity film stacked onto the support substrate and generating a carrier (electron, positive hole) in response to an item to be detected; and means for reading equipped with an element for accumulating and reading the carrier generated by the semiconductor sensitivity film.

A portable gamma ray detection apparatus having a gamma ray detector encapsulated by a compact isolation structure having at least two volumetrically-nested enclosures where at least one is a thermal shield. The enclosures are suspension-mounted to each other to successively encapsulate the detector without structural penetrations through the thermal shields. A low power cooler is also provided capable of cooling the detector to cryogenic temperatures without consuming cryogens, due to the heat load reduction by the isolation structure and the reduction in the power requirements of the cooler. The apparatus also includes a lightweight portable power source for supplying power to the apparatus, including to the cooler and the processing means, and reducing the weight of the apparatus to enable handheld operation or toting on a user's person.

In this way, seeping of an adhesive filler can be prevented in the arrangement where a plurality of active-matrix substrates are fixed on the base substrate using the adhesive filler. An electromagnetic wave capturing device according to the present invention uses such a composite active-matrix substrate.

As light application is continued still after incidence of radiation stops, occurrence of residual output can also be circumvented. Further, a light strength control section controls the light application section so as to increase or decrease the strength of light applied by the light application section in response to a decrease or an increase in a gain setup value of an electric signal processing circuit, and the dark current component narrowing the dynamic range does not widely occupy the output range of the electric signal processing circuit. Consequently, the dynamic range is not largely narrowed either.

The silicon insulator is silicon nitride or silicon oxide that has a strong adhesive strength to the active layer of the thin film transistor. Thereafter, an organic material, as a planarizing layer, is formed on the silicon insulator, so that the leakage current, which has a bad influence on the operation of the thin film transistor, can be prevented.
