A fiber transition segment for transitioning an optical fiber from a hydrophone module to the central axis of the module. The segment comprises a conical, elongated element and a cylindrical portion of reduced diameter that protrudes longitudinally from the wide end of the conical element. The cylindrical portion is reciprocally mounted within an interconnect spring at the end of the hydrophone assembly. The fiber transition segment has a helical internal groove for receiving the optical fiber from the interconnect spring. The groove is aligned with and approximately matches the pitch of the groove in the interconnect spring to provide a smooth transition to the fiber transition segment and then to the central axis of the module.

A fiber optic attenuating element is formed of a thermoplastic polymer having (i) a refractive index in the range of between about 1.42 and 1.47 as measured at a temperature of 230null C. and a wavelength of 1550 nm, (ii) a glass transition temperature of at least 105null C., and (iii) an intrinsic loss of less than one dB/mm at 1310 and 1550 nm. In disclosed embodiments, the polymer includes at least one monomer including fluorinated moieties and, optionally, one or more additional monomers. A main body portion of the element has a first planar contact face on a first side and a second planar contact face on a second, opposite side. The contact faces are dimensioned to couple optically with first and second optical fibers when ends of the fibers are urged against the faces by parts of an attenuator device in which the element is mounted.

A termination assembly for use in an optical hydrophone module, comprising a module oil seal and an optical fiber seal. The termination assembly is used at the ends of modules and provides a means for filling individual modules with fill fluid. A module oil seal comprises a cylindrical wall defining a cavity, with one end substantially closed and the other end open. An annular face plate on the open end makes a seal dividing a coupling and a clevis. A check valve is mounted to an orifice that passes through the substantially closed end of the module oil seal. Optical fibers pass through the substantially closed end and the optical fiber seal is provided around the optical fiber that passes therethrough. The fiber seal fits snugly in a module oil seal opening. Both components serve to provide a seal that can withstand high pressures and maintain optical fiber integrity.

Waveguide assemblies and methods to manufacture waveguide assemblies are disclosed. An example method of manufacturing a waveguide assembly comprises: coating a surface of a waveguide with an adhesive layer; heating a substrate to a temperature above a melting point of the adhesive layer; placing the waveguide on the heated substrate when the adhesive layer is solid or semi-solid; and curing the adhesive layer.

A wavelength tunable optical device comprises a polarization maintaining (PM) optical fiber having a length, a first end, a second end, and an initial birefringence. The PM optical fiber receives polarized light from a first polarizer adjacent to the first end of the PM optical fiber. A second polarizer receives a light output from the second end of the PM optical fiber. A wavelength tunable optical device provides a plurality of spectral peaks leaving the second polarizer with a periodicity determined by the length of the PM optical fiber. Each of the plurality of spectral peaks has a wavelength dependent upon the length and the initial birefringence of the PM optical fiber. The PM optical fiber is a radiation tunable optical fiber adaptable to a tuned birefringence such that the periodicity and each of the wavelengths change to a selectively tuned wavelength and a tuned periodicity.
摘要:
A light-emitting module structurally suspended between a pair of spaced apart electrical conducting wires wherein each of the wires has selected portions that are electrically insulated from the module. The light emitting module, in concert with the electrical conducting wires, provides structural support for the light emitter portion of the light emitting module via the connections to the insulated and non-insulated portions of the electrical conducting wires. A plurality of light emitting modules may be ganged together in series, parallel or series-parallel electrical configurations to produce chains of light emitting modules. The chains of light emitting modules produce selected or desired illumination depending on the quantity of light emitting modules being ganged together.

A fiber management frame and an interconnection closure including the fiber management frame are provided for securely retaining optical fiber connection trays once the closure is placed into service, while also permitting access to any of the trays to reconfigure the connections of the optical fibers without disturbing the remaining trays. The fiber management frame includes a support for holding at least one such tray selected from the group consisting of a splice tray, a coupler tray, and a connector panel. The fiber management frame may also include a bias member, such as one or more tension members, for urging each tray toward the support. As such, the bias member releasably secures each tray to the support. The fiber management frame may also include at least one adjustable member, such as an upstanding bracket, that cooperates with the support to define a space for housing at least one tray.

An optical fibre connector comprising a main body in the form of a manipulator 11 having a throughbore which removably receives a sleeve-like carrier 13 again having a throughbore. The carrier 13 receives removably an optical fibre assembly which is to be coupled to another optical component by means of the connector. The manipulator 11 also includes two pairs of adjustment screws 18a, and 19a which can be used to displace the carrier and optical fibre assembly relative to the longitudinal axis of the manipulator. A polarising element 41 is arranged in the manipulator 11 such that light passing through the connector system will pass through the polarising element 41.

An optical fibre management assembly comprises a support module (12) carrying two or more pivotable optical fibre storage trays (13). The support module has channels in its outer surface for guiding fibres to an entry zone in a first region of its surface to a tray selection zone from which fibres are guided to respective trays.
