摘要: A method is disclosed for washing silver halide photographic emulsions, including desalting and/or concentrating, based on depletion phase separation mechanism, wherein phase separation is effected by the addition of water-soluble non-interactive and non-adsorbing carboxyl polymers. The process involves the separation of the supernatant fluid, containing the undesirable water soluble salts and the added phase separating agents, from the washed and condensed silver halide phase for desalting and redispersion of the latter.

摘要: This invention offers a new method to produce tabular silver halide grains, more preferably silver bromide or silver bromoiodide grains, having a tabularity, defined as the ratio between the aspect ratio and the thickness of the emulsion crystals, of at least 25 and a homogeniety of the distribution of said silver halide emulsion crystals, defined as a hundred times the ratio between the standard deviation and the average projective crystal diameter of said crystals of less than 30, characterized by the steps of adding to a reaction vessel containing at least one polar aprotic solvent a silver salt in an amount to get a concentration from 0.01 to 1M of said silver salt and a halide salt in an amount to get a concentration 1 to 10.sub.4 times the molar concentration of said silver salt; dissolving the said silver salt and the said halide salt; adding a protic solvent to the said reaction vessel in order to form twinned tabular nuclei; colloidally stabilizing said twinned tabular nuclei by the addition of a protective colloid apart or together with at least one protic solvent or with a mixture of at least one protic and at least one aprotic solvent, in order to obtain a ratio by weight of water to (a)protic solvent of not more than 40:60 in the reaction vessel; optionally growing said twinned tabular nuclei to tabular silver halide emulsion crystals in the same or in another reaction vessel by the addition of an aqueous soluble silver salt solution and a aqueous soluble halide salt solution; flocculating and decanting the said emulsion crystals obtained, followed by washing and redispersing or applying dialysis or ultrafiltration techniques.

摘要: A liquefying apparatus for melting and blending solid materials includes a hopper with a coiled heating element disposed therein which supports and melts the solid materials into liquid form. The hopper is segmented into a plurality of compartments and as the solid material melts the liquid is collected in the lower portion of the hopper. The collected liquid is continuously agitated to ensure that there are no concentration pockets. The lower section is also provided with a deaeration device to prevent entrained air from entering the liquid.

摘要: The present invention is a method for degassing an aqueous composition of chunked gelatin. Prior to melting the gelatin chunks, the gelatin is subjected to a pressure near the steam pressure corresponding to the temperature of the gelatin chunks. Application of this pressure degasses the gelatin chunks to that they can be sent directly to the melter and to the coating station.

摘要: A method and apparatus for converting gel-like substances from a gel state to a sol state in which the melting speed can be accurately controlled over a wide range and the apparatus can be easily cleaned. A grid-type heater constructed of rotatable parallel heating pipes is disposed at the bottom of a melting tank. Rotation of the pipes which simultaneously heating them imparts flowability to a heat transfer boundary formed on the side of the gel-like substance. The melting speed is controlled by controlling the speed of rotation of the pipes.
