    摘要: A method for processing a silver halide photographic material comprises the steps of loading the material into a chamber adapted to hold the material therein, introducing a metered amount of a first processing solution into the chamber, processing the photographic material with the first processing solution, introducing a metered amount of a second processing solution which is other than a second part of the first processing solution into the chamber without removing the first processing solution so that at least part of the total volume of the second processing solution is provided by the first processing solution and processing the photographic material with the second processing solution, the total volume of solution for each processing stage being spread over the whole area of the photographic material in a repetitive manner to enable uniform processing.

    摘要: A high contrast photographic material free from nucleating agents comprising a support bearing a silver halide emulsion layer comprising silver halide grains and a hydrophilic colloid having a silver:hydrophilic colloid ratio above 1.9, and containing a density enhancing amine compound in the emulsion layer or an adjacent hydrophilic colloid layer wherein at least 60% of the silver halide grains are spectrally sensitized. A photographic image can be formed from the imagewise exposed material by a method comprising developing the exposed material for a time no longer than 25 seconds at a temperature no greater than 35° C.

In known processes, particularly those using hydrazine compounds, developer solutions to increase contrast contain high concentrations of amino compounds that are volatile, have an annoying, unwholesome odor, and corrode the development machines. If development is conducted in the presence of onium compounds having both quaternary nitrogen and tertiary amine functions in the molecule, the process can operate with odor-free developers that do not release corrosive vapors. The invention can be used in reprography for steps preliminary to printing.

    摘要: A processing method comprising the steps of: imagewise exposing a silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer; and developing the exposed photographic material, wherein said development is carried out in the presence of a compound represented by formula (I): wherein D and E each represents a —CH═ group, a —C(R0)═ group or a nitrogen atom wherein R0 represents a substituent; and R1, R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a substituent bonded to the ring by any of a carbon atom, a nitrogen atom, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or a phosphorus atom, provided that at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R0 has an —SM group (wherein M represents an alkali metal atom, a hydrogen atom or an ammonium group), and when only one of E and D represents a nitrogen atom, E represents a nitrogen atom, D represents a —CH═ group or a —C(R0)═ group, and neither R2 nor R3 represents a hydroxyl group, and wherein the silver halide emulsion in said photographic material is spectrally sensitized with a specific dye.

According to the invention, the nucleating agent has the formula (I) and the photographic material is developed in a hydroquinone-free developer, comprising a main developing agent of the ascorbic acid or ascorbic acid salt type, and as auxiliary developing agent a mixture of 3-pyrazolidones of which at least one has the formula (II): wherein at least one of the radicals R3 to R9 contains a solubilizing group. This combination enables photographic materials with ultrahigh contrast to be obtained.
