摘要： The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for increasing the perceived quality of displayed images. This is achieved in a variety of ways including the use of a plurality of device specific display characteristics when preparing images for display. It is also achieved through the monitoring of display device and/or ambient light conditions, e.g., on a periodic basis, and using the obtained information when controlling display output. Another approach to improving the perceived quality of displayed images involves the use of information relating to a specific user's ability to perceive image characteristics such as color. By customizing display output to an individual user's own physical perception capabilities and/or viewing characteristics it is possible to enhance the image quality perceived by the individual viewer as compared to embodiments which do not take into consideration individual user characteristics.

The picture display apparatus includes a display unit having a display screen on which a picture is displayed, a specifying unit for specifying an optional area of an overall picture displayed on a display screen of the display unit, a magnified picture generating unit for generating a magnified picture of the area specified by the specifying unit, and a display control unit for superimposing the magnified picture on the overall picture in such a manner that the magnified picture is superimposed on the overall picture and the portion of the overall picture overlapped below the magnified picture is rendered visible and displayed on the display screen of the display unit. Since a magnified picture is superimposed on an overall picture for prohibiting the display from being divided into two portions, the viewer is not fatigued and is safeguarded against mistaken recognition, while the picture portion desired to be viewed may be designated easily, while the picture may be seen as the picture is magnified smoothly continuously.

摘要： An automatically adjusted magnifier for a display comprises a motor, two movable bases, two breakers, and a magnifier. The movable bases are located at either sides of the motor to connect with the motor by way of gears. Each of the movable bases has a transmission belt driven by the motor via one of the gears and a driving wheel to carry two opposite pulleys moving along a guide rail respectively. Two extensible levers in each movable base have an end thereof pivotally attached to the pulleys respectively and the other end thereof pivotally attached an engaging piece respectively so as to connect with the magnifying glass. Hence, the extensible levers may displace the magnifying glass to a best position to magnify a screen of the display.

摘要： A method and apparatus for determining a format for displaying information in a display area coupled to a computer system, the format being based on the size of the display area and the amount of information to display. As a user continues to enter information in the display area, software program instructions update the format of the information when the amount of information to display changes. This includes reducing the size of the font as additional information is entered and enlarging the size of the font when enough information is deleted to create available space. The font type and/or the font size may be changed to allow the information to fit within the available display area. The size of the text may be reduced to a minimum level and, and as more information is entered, the display is scrolled so the user may view the most recently entered data. A scale also be determined to reduce or enlarge graphics information so that it fits within the available display area.

The obtained character data is boldfaced by increasing a character line width of the obtained character data in a first direction by an amount corresponding to at least a width of a light-emitting element. A boldfaced character is displayed on a display screen in accordance with data derived from the boldfaced character data. In boldfacing the character data, a character line width-increasing pattern is selected in accordance with a degree to which the luminous intensity of the light-emitting elements contributes. In particular, the step of increasing the character line width in order to boldface the character data avoids a pattern in which a B-light (blue) emitting element is located at a next-to-endmost inner position of the increased character line width. A light-emitting pattern is selected in order to eliminate an isolated sub-pixel spot, which otherwise would objectionably be visible in the boldfaced character.
