摘要: The present case is directed to a feature for dictation equipment that enables a dictator to indicate instructions directly on a recording medium for later use by a typist and that effectively eliminates separate index slips ordinarily required heretofore. The feature is adaptable for indicating ends of letters, and the like, as well as instructions for the transcriber. In a preferred embodiment, facilities are provided for the dictator to dictate instruction material simultaneously with a super-imposed tone signal that can be recognized later as signifying a special instruction. The feature is illustrated in conjunction with a disc-type recording and transcribing apparatus, but is adaptable for use with other kinds of media, such as belts, cards, etc.

摘要: In one illustrated embodiment a generally conical locating member for a transducer head has a guide surface extending thereabout in successive turns of progressively increasing radius. In another embodiment two generally conical sections provide respective axially oppositely directed guide surfaces whose pitch runs in the same direction such that with head locating arms resiliently engaging the respective guide surfaces, the head is always positively locked with the angular position of the conical drive member. With a stepping motor drive, the guide surface or surfaces may comprise successive flat faces each having a tangential extent to compensate for maximum error in stepping angle. The conical members are made by injection molding for least possible cost.

摘要: A dictating unit has an associated microphone with control buttons for establishing modes of operation and otherwise controlling the unit. The dictating unit is arranged for loading and unloading of a magnetic belt from the side. A transcribing unit has an associated headset and foot control and is arranged for loading and unloading of the magnetic belt from the front of the unit. However, each unit makes use of the same basic frame and common operating mechanisms. For maximum convenience, the common mechanisms are oriented in a preferred direction, differing by 90*, with reciprocable movement of transducer and index means in the dictating unit and transverse movement (at 90*) of the transducer and index means in the transcribing unit.

摘要: In a magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus, for simplifying the structure of a fixing device of an audio-control head and for decreasing the number of adjustment procedures, a synthetic resin part formed of a plate member is molded of a resin integrally with a shaft part extending in a through hole in a base and with a fixed part provided on the opposite surface of the base to the surface of the base on which the plate member is provided, so that the synthetic resin part can be rotated around the through hole; an audio-control head is provided on a head plate, which is pressed toward the base by a spring fitted on a spring fixing screw; and three adjustment screws include screw parts which support the head plate, and cylindrical parts which abut against the surface of the base through holes bored through the synthetic resin part. Positioning of the audio-control head in a moving direction of a magnetic tape is effected by an adjustment jig between a notch on the synthetic resin part and a projection part on the base. Two of the adjustment screws are located on a straight line passing the center of the through hole in the base and the center of a control head, which positions are on the front and rear sides of the control head. Mainly, the height of the audio-control head is adjusted by one of the adjustment screws, the inclination angle .theta. is adjusted by another adjustment screw, and the azimuth angle is adjusted by the other one.

摘要: The improvement of a tape recorder mechanism which comprises a push-back angle plate located at the leading end of swivel arm, an intermediate gear installed on the swivel arm and engaged to the winding gear, a knockback slider installed between the operation lever and main deck, and a rewind slider installed on the secondary deck. The swivel arm is linked with a transmission mechanism by a split spring which provides means for the advancing and returning movement of both parts. When the tape winding operation is stopped, the overwinding of a short piece of tape during stop operation is avoided automatically by simply pressing down the stop operation lever. The first step of pressing down the stop operation lever to move the lever mechanism a small distance ahead, enables the push-back angle plate on the swivel arm and the knock-back slider, pushing the pinch roller bracket and swivel arm simultaneously, therefore the intermediate gear is disengaged from the driven gear and the pinch roller is separated from main guide shaft. Continue pressing down of the stop operation lever to further advance the displacement of the lever mechanism, the forward operation mode of magnetic head is released and the forward play mode is tripped out. The aforementioned process can stop motion simultaneously when the stop operation lever is depressed. Thus the overwinding of a short piece of tape can be avoided.

摘要: An imaging method which is comprised of a spatially varying imagewise output intensity for a corresponding imaging input. An imaging member comprising between two electrodes a photoconductor in contact with an about 1 to about 6 micron thick layer of nematic liquid crystalline material, which in the absence of an electrical field is in the homogeneous texture, and having negative dielectric anisotropy is utilized. A d.c. voltage above the parallel variable grating mode threshold for the nematic liquid crystalline material is applied between the two electrodes of the imaging member and, while the voltage is applied, the photoconductor is exposed to imagewise configured actinic electromagnetic radiation from a first radiation source. The actinic radiation causes the voltage to increase across portions of the nematic liquid crystalline layer in electrical contact with regions of the photoconductor exposed to the actinic radiation. The increase in voltage across these portions of the liquid crystalline material is sufficient to cause cylindrical, vortical domains of molecules of the nematic liquid crystalline material to form with their long axes parallel to the initial direction of homogeneous alignment (a parallel variable grating mode). The spatial frequency of the vortical domains varies dynamically with the intensity of the actinic electromagnetic radiation. From a second radiation source, electromagnetic radiation which is non-actinic to the photoconductor by virtue of either the photoconductor or imaging member structure, is modified by the imagewise configured liquid crystalline texture resulting in a projection image of second source radiation corresponding to the imagewise configured first source electromagnetic radiation.

摘要: A flexible magnetic disk, rotatably housed in an apertured envelope to make up a disk cartridge, is loaded through an entrance slot in the housing of the apparatus to a preassigned position for data transfer with a pair of transducer heads on its opposite sides. Upon subsequent activation of a clamp actuating mechanism, the magnetic disk is clamped for rotation and, at the same time, is caught between the transducer heads for data transfer therewith. In order to avoid the direct contact of the two transducer heads as a result of the user's tampering with the clamp actuating mechanism when the disk cartridge is not loaded in the apparatus, a clamp inhibit mechanism is provided for preventing the operation of the clamp actuating mechanism when the disk cartridge is not loaded. The clamp inhibit mechanism includes a detent which is activated by the disk cartridge inserted in the entrance slot for allowing the operation of the clamp actuating mechanism. Upon subsequent activation of the clamp actuating mechanism, the detent is thereby reactivated to move out of contact with the loaded disk cartridge, so that the detent does not in any way interferes with the rotation of the magnetic disk.

摘要: The system is designed to interface with external devices and services, to transcribe audio that may be stored elsewhere such as a wireless phone'voice mail, or occurring between two or more parties such as a conference call. An audio stream is separated into many audio shreds, each of which has duration of only a few seconds and cannot reveal the context of the conversation. A workforce of geographically distributed transcription agents who transcribe the audio shreds is able to generate transcription in real time, with many agents working in parallel on a single conversation. No one agent (or group of agents) receives a sufficient number of audio shreds to reconstruct the context of any conversation. The use of human transcribers allows the system to overcome limitations typical of computer-based speech recognition and permits accurate transcription of general-quality speech even in acoustically hostile environments.
