Abstract:
The invention provides a method of manufacturing polyaniline having magnetic properties and improved non-linear electrical properties, starting from neutral polyaniline, the method comprising the following steps: the neutral polyaniline is dissolved at a concentration of 0.1 to 3 parts per hundred by weight in a solution of fuming sulfuric acid including, at a concentration lying in the range 0.1 to 10 parts per hundred by weight, a magnetic metal, a magnetic metal salt, or any mixture of such metals and/or metal salts that is soluble in fuming sulfuric acid; the solution is maintained under stirring for a length of time lying in the range 10 minutes to 72 hours; the solution is poured slowly into methanol or distilled water to obtain a precipitate of magnetic self-doped polyaniline; and the precipitation cake is washed until the washing solution has neutral pH, and said precipitation cake is dried.

Disclosed herein are a novel phosphate compound by which a copper ion can be dispersed in a high proportion in a synthetic resin, thereby providing excellent visible ray-transmitting property and performance that near infrared rays are absorbed with high efficiency, a preparation process thereof, a phosphate copper compound obtained from the phosphate compound and a preparation process thereof, and a near infrared ray-absorbing acrylic resin composition which has both excellent visible ray-transmitting property and near infrared rays absorption capability.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an electromagnetic wave-shielding coating material which is superior in both paintability and a electromagnetic wave shielding activity. Also, the coating material is of antistatic activity. The coating material comprises polyaniline (ES) with a solid content of 1-50%, a matrix polymer with a solid content of 1-50%, and additives at a predetermined amount. Also disclosed is an electromagnetic wave-shielding coating material, which is prepared by mixing polyaniline (ES, 100%), an acrylic resin and additives at predetermined amounts and adding the mixture with a hardener and a mixed solvent at predetermined amounts just before use. The electromagnetic-shielding coating material is able to effectively shield electromagnetic waves with a broad band of frequencies and be coated onto cases of various electromagnetic apparatuses, thereby protecting the body from electromagnetic wave pollutions.
Abstract:
An electromagnetic shielding composite having nanotubes and a method of making the same are disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the composite for providing electromagnetic shielding includes a polymeric material and an effective amount of oriented nanotubes for EM shielding, the nanotubes being oriented when a shearing force is applied to the composite. According to another embodiment of the present invention, the method for making an electromagnetic shielding includes the steps of (1) providing a polymer with an amount of nanotubes, and (2) imparting a shearing force to the polymer and nanotubes to orient the nanotubes.
Abstract:
Calibration devices for optical scanners and methods for their use are provided. The subject devices are characterized by having a polymeric coating with at least one fluorescent agent, where the devices have minimal local and global nonuniformities. The subject device may also include one or more photobleached regions. In using the subject devices, a surface is illuminated with at least one light source, fluorescence data is obtained from the surface and the optical system is calibrated based upon the obtained fluorescence data. The subject invention finds use in a variety of optical scanners, including biopolymeric array optical scanners. Also provided are kits for use in verifying and calibrating optical scanners.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a thermosetting resin composition including a radically curable resin mixture of: a) 50-100 parts by weight of a radically curable resin that also contains a free monomer capable of copolymerising with it; b) 0-50 parts by weight of a shrink-resistant compound that can also contain an amount of copolymerisable free monomer, the total of (a) and (b) adding up to 100, and 2D-randomly distributed, discontinuous carbon fibres obtained by chopping split, continuous carbon fibre bundles to form packages of carbon filaments, which carbon bundles are provided with a sizing that is at least partially chemically bonded thereto, and with a binder whose solubility at room temperature in the copolymerisable free monomer present in the radically curable resin mixture amounts to at least 10% by weight, the weight percentage of carbon fibres relative to the resin composition being between 5 and 65% by weight, and optionally a filler also being present. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of a thermosetting resin composition, as well as processes for the manufacture of 3D-moulded articles therefrom and to 3D-moulded articles themselves.
