    摘要: The invention relates to an optical amplifying medium comprising a liquid medium, having an organic ligand corresponding to the following chemical formula: the groups R1, R2 and R3 comprising halogenated chains and a rare earth ion. The advantage of using a liquid medium lies in the possibility of more easily discharging the heat within the amplifying medium. The present solution provides a formulation that furthermore makes it possible to have entities that are non-toxic contrary to those proposed in the prior art.

    摘要: A transverse flow CW atomic iodine laser system uses a closed cycle fuel system to operate in a continuous mode. An elliptical pump cell having a Hg arc lamp cooled by deionized water irradiates with UV energy C.sub.3 F.sub.7 I gas to produce excited atomic iodine. A transverse flow section attached to the pump cell channels C.sub.3 F.sub.7 I gas into a laser cell where lasing occurs. The flow section has upstream and downstream flow cavities, triangular shaped, that channel the laser gas. A diffuser and flow straighteners are placed in these cavities to make the flow velocity across the transverse laser axis as uniform as possible so as to produce very stable laser gain output.

    摘要: Hybrid laser structures are disclosed, the structures being axial gradient lasers that are a combination of solid-state lasable plate elements spaced along the optical axis of the laser and a cooling liquid for the plate elements, the liquid having lasing ions that lase at a wave length that is different from the wave length of the lasing ions of the plate elements. The solid-state plate elements can be made of a crystalline or glass host material doped with, for example, Cr.sup.3+ ions, and the cooling liquid whose stimulated emission is at a different wave length than that of the plate element can be, for instance, selenium oxychloride doped with Nd.sup.3+ ions.

    摘要: An improved liquid lasing solution is prepared by introducing neodymium trifluoroacetate into phosphorus oxychloride. Some Lewis acid is also desirably included in the solution in an amount to increase solubility of the neodymium III phosphorus dichloridate formed, optimize the intensity of fluorescense of the liquid lasing solution and enhance its operative efficiency. Preferably, Lewis acid of the form zirconium tetrachloride is employed and the neodymium (III) phosphorus dichloridate formed as a result of the dissolution of the neodymium trifluoroacetate in the phosphorus oxychloride is in a mole proportionality relative to the zirconium tetrachloride of not less than 1. The new liquid laser solution is highly stable over relatively long periods of time, does not degrade under flash excitation, and obviates certain undesirable absorption characteristics of comparable prior art liquid lasing compositions.
