If the nonmagnetic layers are filled with permanent magnets or a structural permanent magnet, consisting of honeycomb with embedded permanent magnets, the rotor then forms a hybrid permanent magnet machine. Spider holders and fiber wrapping optionally added to reinforce the rotor. This rotor assembly is also reversible so that the end holders' recesses secure the nonmagnetic layers instead of the magnetic layers. An assembly method for any configuration of the rotor assembly is set forth that employs simple manufacturing processes.

Brushes serve to repeatedly start and interrupt the supply of current to the individual coils via respective commutator segments of the rotor in order to rotate the rotor. Each pole includes a reduced magnetic flux density area and an increased magnetic flux density area. The potential discharge between the commutator segments and the brushes supplying current to the individual coils is reduced by altering the magnetic forces of the poles within the reduced magnetic flux density area and the increased magnetic flux density area. The magnetic forces of the poles are altered by using either separate magnets of varying levels of strength or by altering the gap between the cores and the poles.

The rotor has a core with an internal space. Permanent magnets are arranged on the core. These permanent magnets are surrounded by an outer cylinder, which is connected flush to closure disks which bear stub shafts. Channels run out from the internal space in the radial direction to the region of the permanent magnets. A resin mass is first introduced into the internal space. The rotor is thereafter heated and run up to centrifuging rotational speed. As a result, the molten resin mass flows through the channels to the region of the permanent magnets and fills up all the cavities present there and also cracks which form in the brittle permanent magnets on running up to speed. The resin mass hardens while the rotor is kept at centrifuging rotational speed. Each surface region of the permanent magnets is thus reliably protected against corrosion.
