摘要: A two-way ultrasonic positioning and navigation system and method involve a plurality of objects each capable of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic signals. A first object transmits an initiating ultrasonic signal and identifies a second object for responding to the initiating ultrasonic signal. The second object transmits a responding ultrasonic signal after a predetermined time delay from receiving the initiating ultrasonic signal. The first objectives the responding ultrasonic signal, and determines a distance between the first object and the second object based on a time period starting at the transmission of the initiating ultrasonic signal and ending at the reception of the responding ultrasonic signal, and on knowledge about the predetermined time delay and other known in advance time delays.

摘要: A fishing method and apparatus is provided comprising a lure module enhanced with circuitry that is capable of releasing hooks upon detection of a signal sent from a user operated, remote device enhanced with circuitry to send the signals causing hook release. The module may be provided as a lure, as a bait-holder, or as a shape-neutral module, while the signal-sending device may be a mounted or handheld device used for example in a boat. Upon determining that a irretrievable snag has occurred, the signal sending device is used to send an appropriate remote signal to the lure or module effecting hook-release rendering the lure or module free from obstruction and retrievable. The lure or module may be reset with replacement hooks for continued fishing.

摘要: An untethered communications buoy system has an untethered buoy freely floating on the surface of water to not compromise the location of the submersible. The submersible has a cavity containing a first data interface member connected to a computer/data-storage that is connected to an acoustic transducer. The untethered buoy has a computer/memory module connected to a radio transceiver and acoustic transceiver. A second data interface member is connected to the computer/memory module and is mounted on the untethered buoy for fitting into the cavity and mating with the first data interface member. A ship is remotely located from the submersible and buoy and has a radio transceiver and an acoustic transceiver. Mating the first and second data interface members permits bidirectional downloading of data between the computer/data-storage and the computer/memory module.

摘要: Sonobuoy apparatus which fits into an A sized canister for use in the water environment. The apparatus includes an array of telescopic arms connected by hinges to a housing which contains receiver transducer electronics. An acoustic projector bears against projections on the last arm section of each arm such that it will cause the nested arm sections to extend while dropping through the water. When the canister falls free, an arm deployment arrangement causes the arms to assume a horizontal orientation. These deployed arms carry receive transducers for detecting acoustic echos from a potential target.

摘要: A buoy system bi-directionally communicates in-air and underwater. A buoy having a shell to float on water has an upper portion in air and a lower portion in water. An array of acoustic transducers which is disposed in the lower portion receives acoustic signals and transmits acoustic signals. A dome-shaped retro-reflective coating on the upper portion is vibrated for retro-reflecting impinging laser illumination as data signals in air. An array of photo-detectors on the upper portion are responsive to impinging laser control signals and/or signals which may be transmitted as acoustic signals in water.

摘要: An expandable platform for deploying sensors in a medium includes a housing and a structural member disposed inside the housing. A releasable restraint is connected to the structural member. Multiple arms are connected to the structural member. Each arm includes a material memory component that has a natural state, corresponding to a minimum energy state, in an extended configuration. The material memory component is energized by compacting the material memory component so that the arm fits within the housing. The material memory component is restrained in an energized state by the restraint, and naturally transforms toward the extended configurations under its own force when the restraint is released. A flexible cable external to the arms is connected to two or more arms, each at a tip portion of the arm. The tip portion is farthest from the structural member when the material memory component is in the extended configuration. Multiple sensors are connected to the cable.

摘要: A dipping sonar transducer housing includes a generally cylindrical housing (10) which is suspended at the end of a cable (12) connected to tile housing through a vibration isolation module (14) which includes springs (22) to damp out noise, particularly that from the supporting vehicle. The housing (10) contains an upper water-tight chamber (26) which contains circuit boards (28) and preamplifiers (30) which serve as amplification and multiplexing means for the hydrophones carried on extendible arms (96, 60, 88); a second water-tight chamber (35) immediately below the first chamber (26) contains an electric motor (36) which drives a hydraulic pump (38) which provides fluid under pressure to an accumulator (40). Movable vertically on the outside of the second chamber (35) is a piston (48) which drives a plurality of links (54, 56) which extend the receiver array. Located in a third water-tight chamber (62) are electronic and electrical components (64, 66) connected to control operation of the projector transducers (78). A reel or drum (82) is rotatable by means of a hydraulic motor contained within the drum (82) to lower and raise the projectors (78). The drum (82), projectors (78) and interconnecting cables (80) are all carried within a chamber (76) which is free-flooding and surrounding this chamber is a sealed annular chamber (74) which contains a plurality of batteries (72) providing a power source for the electric motor (36) and the projector transducers (78).
