    摘要: A wireless communication device and method for making a secure transfer of a communication connection from a direct connection with a cellular network to a connection via a wireless local area network is provided. The device and method are adapted for detecting the presence of the wireless communication device within the communication coverage area of the wireless local area network and authenticating the wireless communication device with the wireless local area network. After authenticating the wireless communication device with the wireless local area network, a handoff is requested from the cellular network to the wireless local area network, where a secure connection between the mobile station and the cellular network via the wireless local area network is established, and then the direct connection with the cellular network is broken.

The wireless interface receives user information, including a user speech sample and a user account code, from a wireless communication device over a wireless communication link. The transaction manager transfers the user speech sample and the user account code to a validation system. The transaction manager receives and displays validation information from the validation system. The validation information indicates if the user is authentic and if the account code is valid. The validation information may include a picture of the user that is displayed by the transaction manager.

    摘要: A method for locating a wireless communications device WCD (102). The method includes the step of receiving at the WCD (102) a wireless transmission comprising a first auto-location trigger signal. The WCD (102), responsive to the first auto-location trigger signal, operates in an auto-location mode. The auto-location mode includes the automatic collection and communication of predetermined first data, such as audio, video, and GPS location data. After the automatic collection and communication step of the first data is complete, the WCD (102) enters into a standby mode. The standby mode continues until a state detection device (206) of the WCD (102) detects a change in the state of the WCD (102). These changes in state are exclusive of the wireless transmission comprising the first auto-location trigger signal. The change(s) in state produce a second auto-location trigger signal, which causes the automatic collection and communication of a second data that is the same or similar to the first data.

    摘要: A system and method for making vehicle originated calls to a telematics service provider or other call center. The method includes identifying a call type associated with a desired wireless communication of speech or data to the call center, and then carrying out one of a number of different call connection processes depending on the call type. For voice channel cellular connections, an in-band modem cellular connection is preferably established in most instances using a connection retry strategy that includes primary, secondary, and possibly tertiary connection attempts. Cell selection can be carried out using an acquisition task, background scan and inter-country PLMN reselection process that are used to select among available PLMNs and base stations. The system and method can be carried out in connection with various cellular system technologies, but is especially suited for use with GSM systems.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for expeditiously releasing network resources for a mobile station based on low battery and lost signal conditions are disclosed. The wireless network (104) receives a power down warning message from the mobile station (102) indicative of a low battery condition. The wireless network (104) then identifies whether a lost signal condition exists with the mobile station (102). In response to receiving the power down warning message and subsequently identifying the lost signal condition, the wireless network (104) causes network resources for the mobile station to be released. The wireless network (104) infers that the mobile station (102) has powered down due to low battery without enough time to send a power down registration to the wireless network (104).
