摘要: A flow channel has lateral cross-sectional shapes that are circular in a first section, and rectangular in a second section. The flow channel in the first section is continuously connected to the flow channel in the second section. The rectangular shape has a long/short side ratio of 3 or greater and 7 or less. The second section has a cross-sectional area S2, the first section has a cross-sectional area S1, and S2>S1. There are two first openings, which are open, in one-to-one correspondence, in two side faces of the second section. There are two second openings, one of which is open while extending from one side face of the two side faces to a bottom face of the second section, and the other of which is open while extending from another one side face of the two side faces to the bottom face of the second section.

摘要: A method for casting a melt uses a melt container in which a melt receiving space is formed. The melt container has a spout in the form of a lance on the bottom on the melt container. The method includes the following steps: filling the melt container with melt, wherein the melt is introduced into the melt receiving space of the melt container from a crucible using a spout orifice of the lance; casting at least one cast workpiece with melt; filling the melt container with melt again. When filling the melt container with melt, more melt is received in the melt receiving space than is needed for casting the cast workpiece. Directly before the renewed filling of the melt container, a remainder of melt having an oxide skin formed at the melt surface is present in the melt receiving space of the melt container.

摘要: A refractory lining structure for a metallurgical vessel is characterized by at least one elongated expansion joint formed in and extending through the surface of the working lining in a substantially vertical direction. The elongated expansion joint accommodates thermal expansion of the working lining in a metallurgical vessel such as, for example, a tundish during preheating for a continuous casting operation. The elongated expansion joint decreases crack formation, delamination, and spalling of the working lining from underlying back-up linings and/or safety linings in metallurgical vessels during preheating and use, while still facilitating metal skull removal after the completion of metallurgical operations.

摘要: A high shear liquid metal treatment device for treating metal includes a barrel, a rotor shaft, rotor fans, and stator plates. The barrel has a longitudinal axis that extends between an upper end and a lower end, and an opening at its upper and lower ends. The rotor shaft is mounted centrally through, and parallel to the longitudinal axis. The rotor fans are mounted along an axial length of the shaft. The stator plates are formed on an inner surface of the barrel and are located between adjacent rotor fans. Each stator plate has at least one passage formed therethrough to allow fluid to pass through the plate; and upper and lower surfaces of each stator plate are formed to be within the minimum distance of an adjacent rotor fan. The minimum distance is between 10 μm and 10 mm. The device allows improved treatment of liquid and semi-liquid metals during processing.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for casting a metal strip with a cross sectional form which varies along the length of the strip. One embodiment of the apparatus includes opposing cooling systems, a positionable molten metal feed system between the opposing cooling systems, and a form adjustment system. The form adjustment system may include at least one dam to determine, at least in part, the cross sectional form of a molten metal feed to the opposing cooling systems. In this way, it is possible to determine the cross sectional form of the solidified metal strip. The dam is moveable during operation of the apparatus to vary the cross sectional form of the molten metal feed to the opposing cooling systems.
