    摘要: In a paper-manufacturing machine a web is subjected to suction by placing a space between the web and a suction roll lapped thereby in communication with a region of substantially less than atmospheric pressure which is maintained at a part of the suction roll which is not lapped by the web. The structure includes a jacket which defines with the part of the suction roll which is not lapped by the web a hollow region with which a source of suction communicates. This hollow region of less than atmospheric pressure is situated at the exterior of the suction roll and bounded in part by an exterior surface of the suction roll, so that the hollow interior of the shell of the suction roll need not necessarily be utilized for providing the suction at the web.

    摘要: A wire is passed over the suction breast roll between the formed paper web and the doffer belt or the previously formed paper webs and doffer belt. The doffer felt is disposed in an unencumbered fashion over each of a plurality of consecutive suction breast rolls. The wire is removed from the web at a downstream point outside the dewatering influence of each breast roll. Stripping of the wire from the paper web is aided by various suction devices or couch rolls at this latter point.

The mantle support structure (30) presents support flow paths (38) from the outer surface (36) of the mantle support structure (30). The support flow paths (38) are in fluid contact with the mantle flow paths (44). The outer surface (36) of the mantle support structure (30) has a static geometric shape defining an envelope having a smaller radius in vicinity of each axial end (15) than in vicinity of a center (16). Thereby, the inner surface (48) of the mantle (44) assumes the shape of the envelope.
