摘要: A projectile launching system can include a projectile launcher and a projectile. The projectile launcher can include at least one barrel, a projectile, a firing pin mechanism, an activator, and a power system. The barrel can extend along a longitudinal axis between first and second ends, with an exit port at the second end. The projectile can be positioned in the barrel and include primer, propellant, and a sub-projectile. The firing pin mechanism can be selectively project into the barrel to engage the primer, whereby the propellant is ignited and the projectile is launched out of the barrel. The activator can be engaged with the firing pin mechanism and engageable by a user to control the firing pin mechanism. The power system can rotate the barrel or the projectile as the firing pin mechanism is projecting into the barrel and engaging the primer of the projectile.

摘要: A projectile for conventional firearms includes a cavity with a conical or ogive surface, and an internal cavity into which is disposed an explosive material, such as a low explosive material. The tip of the projectile includes a reservoir into which is disposed an initiator, detonator, or primer material.According to some embodiments a pin is disposed ahead of the initiator, while according to others, deformable material is placed ahead of the initiator, so that impact of the projectile onto a target shocks the initiator into deflagration, which propagates into the explosive material, to fragment the projectile or for pyrotechnic effects, or both.According to additional embodiments, the explosive may be a binary explosive activated by common substances available separately to a user, so that the product itself may be legally sold, shipped, and stored in a safe and stable state and thus incur fewer regulatory burdens.

摘要: A fragmentation pattern is formed on a surface of a warhead using an etchant process. An etchant resistance material is coated on an interior surface of the warhead casing. A portion of the etchant resistant material is selectively removed by a directed energy process and an etchant is applied to the exposed portion of the warhead casing surface thereby etching the fragmentation pattern. Alternatively, a protective coating is applied over the entire surface thereby creating the fragmentation pattern.

摘要: A munition, such as a warhead, includes a penetrator casing for penetrating hard targets, such as a fortification or reinforced building or other structure, with the penetrator casing having reduced-thickness portions. The reduced-thickness portions provide weak points to the casing that facilitate the casing being transformed into fragments of a desired size/quantity when an explosive within the casing is detonated after the penetration occurs, thus enhancing the effectiveness of the munition. In addition, the warhead may have lethality-enhancing materials, such as additional fragments and/or energetic materials, at the reduced-thickness portions of the penetrator casing. The reduced-thickness portions may be holes, such as longitudinal holes, in the casing, or may be grooves on an inner and/or outer surface of the casing. The munition may be a dual-use munition, with the explosive able to be detonated at a burst height for use of the warhead as a non-penetrating area fragmentation weapon.

摘要: A method of making a fragmenting structure for an explosive device includes placing a volume of fragments of a deformable metal material into a press mold, the fragments having sufficient surface adhesiveness to adhere to each other upon being compressed together, e.g., by coating the fragments with adhesive. The fragments are compressed together in the press mold to form the fragmenting structure as a rigid and substantially void-free structure of compression-deformed, mutually adhering metal fragments, the fragmenting structure being sized and shaped for subsequent incorporation into the explosive device. An explosive device includes an explosive charge and a fragmenting structure adjacent to the explosive charge, the fragmenting structure being a rigid and substantially void-free structure of compression-deformed, mutually adhering metal fragments. The structure may have been manufactured by the disclosed method.
