摘要: The present invention is directed to a continuous process for producing a foamable celluloid product by introducing a solid component (comprising nitrocellulose, chemical blowing agent (CBA), stabilizer and alcohol) and a liquid component (comprising camphor and acetone) into a mixer/devolatilizer machine where the chamber is under atmospheric pressure and having significant overhead space. The chamber is comprised of two zones wherein the first zone has a temperature that is less than the second zone and at least one rotor comprising hollow, temperature-controlled arms having a tilted angle affixed to the rotors. The rotors of the mixer/devolatilizer machine act to mix the solid and liquid components under lower shearing forces, lower mechanical stress and longer residence times than those used by twin-screw extruders.

摘要: The present invention is directed to preparing pyrophoric foam granules having a specific infrared signature comprising the steps of (a) mixing a composition comprising a metal salt, carbohydrate, and wetting agent into a homogenous paste, (b) extruding the composition into strands, (c) cutting or spheronizing the strands into a predetermined size or length based on a specific thermal or infrared response to produce pyrophoric foam granules and (d) activating the granules by heating the composition at elevated temperatures under an inert or reducing atmosphere until the matrix is carbonized and the metal salt is reduced.

摘要: A laser ignition assembly comprises first and second mounting surfaces opposed to each other. A central cavity is formed through the surfaces and sized to receive energetic material therein. A vertical solder bridge is formed between the surfaces and an edge emitting laser diode disposed between the surfaces. The laser diode is oriented such that a light fluence therefrom is directed in a radial direction into the central cavity. The surfaces can be circuit boards, e.g., copper clad, rigid circuit boards, and have an annular shape. The central cavity can be further defined by an interboard gap between the surfaces. The ignition assembly can fit within a primer cup of a munition.

摘要: A projectile enables axial assembly and precise angular alignment of cylindrical or ogival sections of the projectile without interfering with internal parts spanning those sections. The projectile includes a turnbuckle design that minimizes Outer Mold Line (OML) transitions and maintains structural integrity. Advantageously, the turnbuckle allows surface mounted antennas and internal electronics to span structural sections of the projectile. The minimal OML produces less turbulence and drag. Finally, the turnbuckle is structurally robust for gun launched applications.

摘要: Semiconductor nanofibers are produced at room temperature in a pressure vessel. A semiconductor wafer and metal catalyst are introduced into the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is filled with a background gas. A nanofiber growth element is introduced into the pressure vessel. For example, the semiconductor may be ablated by a laser. The semiconductor is retained in the pressure vessel for a prolonged period of time until nanofiber growth appears.
