摘要: An induction shield is configured to substantially reduce emissions emitted from an induction heat source (e.g., coil) during use. The shield is positioned adjacent to a vessel (e.g., in an injection system) having a melting portion configured to receive meltable material to be melted therein and an induction heat source positioned adjacent the vessel configured to melt the meltable material received in the melting portion of the vessel. The shield may include a tube configuration configured to flow liquid therein to absorb heat emitted from the heat source. The tube configuration can comprise a single tube or multiple tubes. The shield can be positioned adjacent the induction source in a helical manner, for example, or at ends of the vessel. The shield can be used during melting of amorphous alloy and for forming a part.

摘要: An induction heating furnace is disclosed comprising an induction coil assembly and a ladle having a metallic shell that supports a crucible holding metal to be heated by the furnace. The ladle is readily separated from the induction coil assembly so that the heated metal may be conveniently and reliably moved among operational stations. The induction coil assembly has a preselected length which is less than the length of the shell. The induction coil assembly surrounds, but does not touch the shell and generates an electromagnetic induction field. The induction coil assembly comprises a coil, upper and lower yokes and an intermediate yoke coextensive with the coil. The upper and lower yokes are separated from each other and electromagnetically coupled together by the intermediate yoke. The upper, lower and intermediate yokes each comprise stacked laminates formed of sheets of ferrous material.

摘要: A method for continuously pouring molten metal in an initially substantially unfilled tundish having a channel-type inductor having a channel opening into the bottom portion of the tundish, is done by starting the pourings and the continuous sequential steps of applying power to the inductor when its channel is first covered by the poured metal to form a melt level and the static pressure of the metal is low and while increasing the power rapidly so as to cause incipient pinching in the channel and then momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; as the metal level further increases so that the metal's static pressure further increases, again increasing the power rapidly so as to again cause incipient pinching in the channel and then again momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; and continuing these sequential steps until the tundish is filled.

摘要: The invention relates to a channel type induction furnace having at least one inductor and closed channels, including side channels, interconnected at the bottom, possibly via a bottom channel joining said channels, and possibly also a central channel extending between the hearth and the bottom channel, especially designed for aluminum, copper or other non-ferrous metals or non-ferrous alloys. The channel type induction furnace according to the invention is characterized in that the height of the channel in a plane through the longitudinal axis of the primary coil is at least 4.times..delta., where .delta. is the depth of penetration into the melt of the current induced in the channel, and the width of the channel is at least 6.times..delta..

摘要: A channel-type induction furnace has one or more inductors, a bottom channel beneath the inductor or inductors and side channels connecting the bottom channel to the hearth. In the case of more than one inductor, there is also at least one central channel running between the inductors. Nozzles are provided openings into the bottom channel opposite the side and central channels for the supply of inert and/or active gas into the channels to modify the flow therein and to carry to the top of the melt various impurities.
