Abstract:
A colored contact lens and a method of making same is provided. An image of an eye is recorded, optionally enhanced, separated into color pattern components, optionally enhanced, then each color pattern component printed on a contact lens, directly or indirectly. The end result is a natural looking contact that enhances the natural iris color or changes the apparent color of the natural iris.
Abstract:
This invention is intraocular lenses, stent, pacemaker housings, venous graft, and methods of producing intraocular lenses. The intraocular lens include an optic (32), and a haptic (34) that are intergrally formed together. The haptic has a polyamide coating (36). The polyamide coating promotes fibrosis in the surrounding eye tissue to enhance the anchoring of the IOL after implantation.
Abstract:
An automatic system for inspecting contact lenses (15) that are suspended in a saline solution (17) within a lens holder. In the manufacturing process a first electronic image is taken of each lens disposed in its holder. Thereafter a second image is taken of the lens after the holder has been rotated and the solution and lens have moved. The two images are compared and any dark spots on the first image that move with respect to the second image are eliminated as artifacts that are caused by contaminants in the solution or marks on the lens holder. The rim of the lens, optical zone, printed logo and colored iris area of the lens are automatically inspected by a computer program for defects. The lens is rejected if defect features are found in any of the inspected areas.
Abstract:
A prepolymer is prepared by reacting a mixture containing (a) at least one multifunctional compound, (b) at least one diisocyanate, and (c) at least one diol. The diol has a weight average molecular weight of at most 6000. The prepolymer, when reacted with an excess of water, forms a hydrogel polymer. The mixture of the prepolymer and water may be reaction molded, and used to form a contact lens.
Abstract:
A method of making a colored contact lens comprises printing at least one layer of a colorant onto a contact lens using a printing process selected from the group consisting of ink jet printing, electrophotographic printing, thermal transfer, and photographic development. Printing can be done directly on the contact lens, on a film in a mold where the contact lens is formed, or on a cliché pad. Multiple layers of colorants can be printed onto a contact lens.
Abstract:
A method of forming a contact lens containing a colored ring that covers a portion of or the entire limbus area of the eye when the contact lens is worn. The method of forming the contact lens includes applying a colorant material in a limbal ring pattern to the surface of a one-side contact lens mold, then filling the one-sided contact lens mold with a polymerizable substance, casting the substance thereby forming a molded surface containing a limbal ring pattern, and machining the opposite side, thereby creating a finished side opposite the molded surface.
Abstract:
A colored contact lens (10) comprising a non-opaque pupil section (20), an iris section (22) surrounding the pupil section (20), and a colored, opaque, intermittent pattern over the iris section (22). The pattern having elements which are indiscernible to the ordinary viewer. The elements of the pattern are a color which provides a contact lens (10) capable of making change or modifications to the appearance of the color of the iris to a striking olive green color, while importing a very natural appearance.
