    Abstract: A power tool battery charger includes a housing, at least one charging circuit coupled to the housing, and an electronic controller coupled to the housing. The electronic controller is configured to receive power tool device data from a power tool device, which may be the same or another power tool battery charger, a battery pack, and/or a power tool. The power tool device data indicate various data associated with the power tool device. Charger operation data are generated by the electronic controller based on the power tool device data, and can include a charging rate, charging target, and/or time indication for when to adjust the charging rate and/or charging target of the at least one charging circuit. A machine learning or artificial intelligence controller can also be used when generating the charger operation data. The at least one charging circuit is then operated based on the charger operation data.

    Abstract: A battery pack includes a battery pack housing, a plurality of battery pack terminals, and a plurality of battery cells supported within the battery pack housing. At least one battery cell includes a battery cell terminal. The battery pack also includes a compound fuse electrically coupled between the battery cell terminal of the at least one battery cell and at least one battery pack terminal. The compound fuse comprises a first material and a second material that has a lower melting point than the first material. The compound fuse includes a first portion electrically coupled to the battery cell terminal, a second portion electrically coupled to the at least one battery pack terminal, and a fuse portion that connects the first portion to the second portion. The fuse portion is configured to establish a discontinuity between the first portion and the second portion during a hard short event.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a battery pack including a housing, a latch mechanism, a printed circuit board connected to electrical terminals, and an internal frame. The housing includes a first and second portion. The first portion includes openings that receive the latch mechanism and openings that receive the terminals. The battery pack also includes a latch cover that protects against water infiltrating between the openings and the latch mechanism, and a terminal cover that protects against water infiltrating between the first housing portion and the terminals. Water that enters the battery pack is directed to the bottom of the battery pack. The water is then drained through openings in the lower housing portion. The internal frame includes openings that secure batteries within the lower housing portion with the help of wedges that are positioned in between adjacent rows of batteries.

    Abstract: Battery pack chargers described herein for charging a battery pack include a battery pack receiving portion, a power control module, and a controller. The battery pack receiving portion receives and interfaces with the battery' pack. The battery pack includes one or more battery cells. The power control module is configured to provide power to the battery pack receiving portion. The controller is connected to the power control module. The controller is configured to provide a charging current to one or more battery cells of the battery pack using a stepped charging profile. The step charging profile includes a first charging current level. The first charging current level is greater than a predetermined maximum charging current for the battery pack. The controller steps down the charging current to a second charging current level when a voltage of the one or more battery cells increases to a predetermined voltage value.

    Abstract: A multi-bay power supply including a plurality of energy storage devices, a power output configured to provide power from the plurality of energy storage devices to a peripheral device, and a controller including an electronic processor.     Abstract: A battery pack may include a battery cell; a resistor operable to receive current from the battery cell; a switch operable to control whether current from the battery cell is provided to the resistor; and an electronic processor coupled to the switch and configured to control the switch to supply current from the battery cell to the resistor. The processor may be configured to detect a failure condition of the battery pack, and, in response, control the switch to discharge the battery cell through the resistor. The processor may be configured to receive a signal from a temperature sensing device indicating the temperature of the interior of the battery pack, determine that the temperature is less than a predetermined temperature threshold, and, in response, close the switch to provide power to the heating element.

    Abstract: A power tool battery charger includes a housing, at least one charging circuit coupled to the housing, and an electronic controller coupled to the housing. The electronic controller is configured to receive power tool device data from a power tool device, which may be the same or another power tool battery charger, a battery pack, and/or a power tool. The power tool device data indicate various data associated with the power tool device.
