Methods, apparatus and computer programs for transmitting and/or receiving information are described. Information encoded in a carrier signal comprising a modulation pattern superimposed on a grid frequency at which electricity flows in a synchronous area of an electric power grid, is decoded by measuring, at a receiving device, a characteristic relating to a frequency of electricity flowing in the electric power grid, accessing data indicative of one or more predetermined code patterns and performing a correlation process to determine a correlation between the modulation pattern and one of the one or more predetermined code patterns. The information is decoded on the basis of the determined correlation. This enables information to be easily transmitted within a synchronous area of the electric power grid.

The first network device can determine a difference parameter for the first communication region based, at least in part, on a first initial beamforming parameter associated with the first communication region and a first coarse beamforming parameter associated with the first communication region. The first network device can compare the difference parameter with a difference threshold to determine whether to estimate a first modified beamforming parameter for a first communication region.

The invention also describes a method for determining the time of the beginning of a modulation phase following an operating phase by means of a control device (1), with a shunt being switched once said operating phase has ended in the lamp unit. Prior to the beginning of the shunt circuit flow connected on the lamp side, the output stage (18) is deactivated and the parallel branch (21) is activated in the control device (1). Upon detection of the shunt circuit flow, the output stage (18) is then activated and the parallel branch (21) deactivated before the data transmission begins.
