A hopper (1) for a packer machine to pack smoking articles and having: at least one output mouth (2), from which groups of smoking articles are cyclically extracted; and a chamber (6), which is arranged above the output mouth (2), it is designed to contain a mass of smoking articles, and feeds the smoking articles to the output mouth (2) through gravity. The output mouth (2) has a plurality of dividing walls (5) defining channels (6), each configured to contain a vertical stack of smoking articles; moreover, each dividing wall (5) has a series of ribs (10), which alternate crests (11) and troughs (12) inside the channels (6).

The hopper (5) has a vertical longitudinal axis (A) and has: at least one group of grooves (11) within which the smoking articles are arranged in stacks and which terminate in an output mouth (10) from which a group (4) of smoking articles can be extracted; a free chamber (15) which is arranged above the grooves (11) and from which the smoking articles enter the grooves (11); and at least one channel (12) which is arranged higher than the output mouth (10) in the direction of the longitudinal axis (A), has a pair of opposite side walls, against which cylindrical side walls of the smoking articles rest, and along which the smoking articles descend, due to gravity, towards the output mouth (10) until reaching the free chamber (15). There is provided a method of feeding rod-shaped consumer goods (16) to a packing apparatus, the method comprising providing a plurality of rod-shaped consumer goods (16) to an upstream end (14) of a stacking channel (112), and feeding the plurality of rod-shaped consumer goods (16) along the stacking channel (112) to a downstream end (18) of the stacking channel (112).The upstream end (14) of the stacking channel (112) is higher than the downstream end (18) in the vertical direction (115), and at least a portion of the stacking channel (112) extends at an angle of between 25 degrees and 75 degrees with respect to the vertical direction (115). The method further comprises receiving the plurality of rod-shaped consumer goods (16) into a hopper (20) from the downstream end (18) of the stacking channel (112), and distributing the plurality of rod-shaped consumer goods (16) from the hopper (20) into a packing apparatus.

The invention relates to a filling hopper (10) for a device for filling compartmented boxes (11) with rod-shaped products. Said filling hopper (10) comprises a conveying means (18) for feeding the material flow formed by products into the area of a filling position (19) and a connecting means (20) for coupling the compartmented boxes (11) that are to be filled to the conveying means (18). The connecting means (20) has an opening (21) for allowing the products to penetrate into one respective compartment (13) of the compartmented box (11). The filling hopper (10) is characterized in that a storage means (22) is provided between the conveying means (18) and the connecting means (20). Said storage means (22) has a variable volume and is designed and arranged in such a way as to be able to accept products from the conveying means (18) and actively discharge said products into one empty compartment (13) at a time. The invention further relates to a corresponding method and a compartmented box to be used particularly for a filling hopper according to one of claims 1 to 19 and for a method according to one of claims 20 to 21. The disclosed compartmented box comprises a bottom wall (16), a rear wall (14), sidewalls (15), and spaced-apart partitions (12) for forming several compartments (13), said partitions (12) extending parallel to the sidewalls (15). A plate-type compartment lock (17) which allows the compartments (13) of the compartmented box (11) to be opened and closed one by one is associated with the compartmented box (11) on the side located across from the bottom wall (16). The object of the application is a segment conveyor (7) adapted to convey groups (G) of rod-like articles (3) while maintaining mutual orientation in the group (G), comprising: transport segments (30, 30') containing a transport pocket (32, 32') for receiving the groups (G) of rod-like articles (3) and determining the mutual orientation of the rod-like articles (3). The transport segments (30, 30') are connected with one another by pivotal joints to form a chain so that an axis (Z) of the transport pocket (32, 32') of the transport segment (30, 30') is situated substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (U) of the transport segment (30, 30') connecting the joints (31) of the transport segment (30, 30').
