Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for differential pressure meters (60) having a constant beta edge boundary (64) defined by fluid displacement members (62, 104, 106) of the meter (60). In some embodiments, a differential pressure meter (60) may have an interchangeable fluid displacement member (62, 104, 106), such that each fluid displacement member (62, 104, 106) replaced in the meter (60) maintains a constant beta edge boundary (64). In other embodiments, a family of differential pressure meters (150, 192) having permanent fluid displacement members (172, 194) may maintain a constant beta edge boundary (154) for each meter (150, 192) of the family of differential pressure meters (150, 192).
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a flow control insert having both a choke valve configured to control flow and pressure through the system and a check valve disposed along a fluid flow path along which the fluid flows. In accordance with the present embodiments, the flow control insert couples together the choke valve and the check valve, and the flow control insert is independently insertable and retrievable relative to a flow control housing.
Abstract:
Ball valve having retention of a seat insert (64, 118) within a seat ring (46). The seat insert (64, 118) is an annular ring having a tapered section (86, 138) on an outer wall (82, 84, 134, 136). The tapered section (86, 138) mates with a shoulder (76, 126) in an outer surface of a profiled groove (68, 116) of the seat ring (46). The seat insert (64, 118) snaps into the profiled groove (68, 116) with the shoulder (76, 126), thereby preventing axial movement of the seat insert (64, 118) with respect to the profiled groove (68, 116) of the seat ring (46). A locking ring (70, 120) fits within the profiled groove (68, 116) of the seat ring (46) to prevent axial and radial movement of the seat insert (64, 118) with respect to the profiled groove (68, 116) of the seat ring (46).
Abstract:
A system for generating energy from a current flowing in an ocean is disclosed, the system comprising a generator assembly comprising a generator and operable to generate energy in response to the flow of the current; an anchor assembly at the bed of the ocean; and a retaining means attaching the generator assembly directly to the anchor assembly, the generator assembly being held between the bed of the ocean and the surface of the body of water, and the generator assembly being rotatable about a substantially vertical axis with respect to the anchor assembly. A preferred generator assembly is disclosed, the assembly comprising a housing having a form such that, in use, the housing has an upstream orientation; an impellor assembly located within the housing comprising a plurality of blades arranged to be contacted by the flow of water when in use; and means to be acted upon by the flow of water to hold the housing in the upstream orientation. A preferred impellor assembly comprises an elongate hub rotatable about an axis of rotation; a plurality of elongate impellor blades extending along and radially outwards from the hub, each blade having an inner portion adjacent the hub and an outer portion distal from the shaft, adjacent blades defining a blade cavity therebetween; wherein each impellor blade is fixed relative to the shaft and moveable therewith, the shaft and inner portions of the impellor blades being arranged such that fluid may be exchanged between the inner regions of the blade cavities.

Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a flow conditioner for displacing and mixing fluid flow to minimize the effects of thermal gradients on the accuracy of a transit time ultrasonic flowmeter and defines an envelope in a cross sectional direction in a pipe having a first ramp adapted to be disposed in the pipe and extending from the outside of the envelope inward toward the center of the pipe in a downstream direction with respect to the fluid flow and forming an angle between 0° and 90° relative to the pipe's inner surface. The conditioner has a second ramp in juxtaposition with the first ramp, the second ramp extending from the outside of the envelope inward toward the center of the pipe in an upstream direction with respect to the fluid flow and forming an angle between 0° and 90° relative to the pipe's inner surface.
Abstract:
An outer casing string, including a surface casing head, and associated installation method. In some embodiments, the surface casing head includes an outer tubular member insertable through a diverter of an installed conductor system, an inner tubular member at least partially disposed within and moveable relative to the outer tubular member, and a sleeve ring rotatably coupled to the inner tubular. The outer tubular member has an annular recess. The sleeve ring includes a snap ring that is displaceable between an extended position and a retracted position. In the extended position, at least a portion of the snap ring is received within the annular recess, and the outer tubular member is axially immovable relative to the inner tubular member. In the retracted position, no portion of the snap ring is received within the annular recess, and the outer tubular member is axially moveable relative to the inner tubular member.

Abstract:
A system, in certain embodiments, includes a centrifugal compressor diffuser having a mounting surface and plurality of diffuser vanes extending from the mounting surface in an axial direction and forming an asymmetrical (e.g., non-periodic) pattern around the circumference of the diffuser. The asymmetrical pattern may be determined based upon characteristics of fluid flowing from an impeller across the diffuser and through a scroll of a centrifugal compressor.
