Abstract:
An alkyd resin comprising A) a polyol-polyacid alkyd; and B) a composition comprising a highly esterified polyol polyester, wherein the polyester comprises a polyol residue and a plurality of fatty acids esters, and wherein from about 5% to about 80% of the fatty acid esters contains exactly one pair of conjugated double bonds.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a coating that includes a film forming binder, a solvent, and a metal complex that functions as a drier. In some preferred embodiments, the metal complex is an aluminum compound, and more particularly an aluminum compound having certain preferred structures as disclosed herein.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of a conjugated seed oil modified with an activated vinyl monomer via a Deils-Alder reaction to generate a modified reactive diluent used to enhance the physical properties of coating systems. In one embodiment, a reactive diluent containing tung oil modified by the addition of an acrylate monomer is mixed with an auto-oxidative alkyd, a metal drier package, and a wetting agent to achieve cross-linked films exhibiting improved tensile strength, tensile modulus, cross-link density, and glass transition temperature, among other physical parameters.
Abstract:
A method for preparing a grafted autoxidisable polyester resin wherein the resin is obtained by steps comprising: a) grafting of at least a diacid or its anhydride onto a first agent by a Diels-Alder and/or Ene reaction; and b) reacting the product of step a) with a second agent. The first agent comprises at least one first functionality selected from a group consisting of a first set of conjugated double bonds or a first allylic hydrogen and comprises at least one further functionality selected from the group consisting of a set of conjugated double bonds, allylic hydrogen, non conjugated double bond, OH group, COOH group and amino group. The second agent is selected from the group consisting of alcohol with a number average hydroxy functionality > 2.0, dialkanolamine or mixtures thereof. The grafted autoxidisable polyester resin has an oil length ≥ 80, a number average molecular weight Mn ≥ 1000 g/mol and a PDI ≥ 3. The grafted autoxidisable polyester resin is for example highly advantageous in high solid coating formulations and provides very low viscosities in combination with low drying times and relatively high average molecular weight.
Abstract:
A paint product that includes a solvent-borne paint composition that includes volatile organic solvents, an acrylic modified alkyd resin, a long oil alkyd, a chlorinated polyolefin modified acrylic resin, and a colorant.
Abstract:
Coating compositions comprise a coating base, a lecithin additive and a fluorochemical wherein the coating base is an alkyd coating, urethane resin coating, unsaturated polymer coating, latex coating or water-dispersed coating; wherein a dried coating resulting from said coating composition has an advancing hexadecane contact angle of at least about 50 degrees and demonstrates improved cleanability in a Lenata oil stain test are disclosed. Preferably the lecithin additive is acylated, most preferably the lecithin additive is acetylated.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the uses of HiOmega flax (linseed) oil, a naturally occurring flax (linseed) with higher than normal alpha linolenic acid content in the production of stronger, more scratch and solvent resistant industrial products such as alkyd resins, epoxidized oils, epoxies, inks, coatings such as paints, enamels, varnishes and films and anti-spalling concrete preservatives.
Abstract:
An autoxidisable architectural coating composition suitable for application to surfaces found in and around buildings at ambient temperatures and in natural daylight wherein surface autoxidation of the composition is promoted by a combination of low concentrations of metal ions (especially manganese or vanadium) and 2, 2-dimethoxy-l , 2-diphenylethan-l-one as photoinitiator. The composition avoids the need to use more than trace amounts cobalt ions which are rumoured to be carcinogenic yet achieves adequately fast rates of autoxidation.
Abstract:
Polyglycerol fatty acid esters, which may be completely esterified (e.g., have a Hydroxyl Value of no more than about 30) or partially esterified, are provided. The esters are commonly formed from a mixture of polyglycerols which include no more than about 50 wt.% cyclic polyglycerols. The polyglycerol esters commonly have a Hydroxyl Value of no more than about 150. Typically the polyglycerol esters have a fatty acid composition which includes a substantial amount of unsaturated fatty acids, e.g., polyglycerol fatty acid esters having an Iodine Value of about 80 to 150. The polyglycerol fatty acid ester may be used as a component in a coating composition, or as an intermediate to form polymeric materials, such as alkyd or urethane resins.
