Abstract:
Alkyd resins are made with up to 50% lactide and a fatty acid or fatty acid precursor. The lactide is a mixture of meso-lactide with one or both of L- and D-lactides. The alkyd resins have excellent adhesion, impact resistance and abrasion resistance when cured. In addition, the alkyd resins, and lacquers and coating compositions made from them, have low viscosities. This allows for higher solids contents at equivalent viscosities, which in turn reduces volatile organic compounds.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of preparing an oxidatively curable coating formulation made from an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin, a complex comprising one or more manganese ions and one or more triazacyclononane-based ligands; and to the use of triazacyclononane-based ligands for accelerating the rate of curing of an alkyd-based resin formulation by such complexes. The formulations may be paints or other oxidatively curable coating compositions.

Abstract:
Aspects of the disclosure include a drying agent that includes a metal organic salt of an α-hydroxy acid for use as a drier in liquid (e.g., coatings, inks, lubes, greases) compositions. Compositions having a waterborne or oil-based composition and a drying agent are also described. Also provided are methods of producing a coating on a surface, by applying to the surface a composition having a drying agent that includes a metal organic salt of an α-hydroxy acid. Methods for preparing an air-drying composition by combining a waterborne or oil-based composition and a drying agent having a metal organic salt of an α-hydroxy acid are also described.
