Abstract: The invention relates to a drive unit for a track-laying vehicle, with a first and a second electrical generator (6, 8), a first and a second internal combustion engine (10, 12), whereby each one generator (6, 8) may be driven by an internal combustion engine (10, 12) and electrical drive motors (14, 16, 18, 20), for driving a right and a left drive track (4, 2). According to the invention, the elements of the drive unit are linked together, in such a way that a first and a second right electric drive motor (14, 16) are dedicated to the right drive track (4) and that a first and second left electric drive motor (18, 20) are dedicated to the left drive track (2) and that both first drive motors (14, 18) are fed by the first generator (6) and both second drive motors (16, 20) are fed by the second generator (8). Said circuit configuration for the energy path permits a very high operating security, even with partially damaged drive units.

Abstract: An undercarriage structure (12) for a track-type vehicle (10) has first and second spaced apart roller frame assemblies (14, 16) which are interconnected by a pivot shaft (18) and an equalizer bar (20). The first and second roller frame assemblies (14, 16) are so arranged with respect to the pivot shaft (18) and the equalizer bar (20) that the roller frame assemblies (14, 16) are substantially non-parallel to each other. This non-parallelism produces either "toe-out" or "toe-in" of the roller frame assemblies (14, 16), which results in the endless track contacting the track rollers in different areas as the vehicle (10) travels in forward and then reverse directions. The wear life of the endless track is thereby prolonged.

Abstract: A track laying work vehicle (10) has an undercarriage assembly (16) including a rigid support beam (46) and first and second roller frame assemblies (36, 38), one on either side of the vehicle (10). Each roller frame assembly (36, 38) has first and second end portions (52, 54, 56, 58) and supports a rotatable idler wheel assembly (40, 42) at the first end portion (52, 56) and a powered drive wheel (26, 28) at the second end portion (54, 58). Each drive wheel (26, 28) is frictionally engaged with a drive axle (22, 24) of the vehicle (10) and can be engaged with a drive axle (22, 24) at a plurality of lateral positions on the axle (22, 24). The first end portion (52, 56) of each roller frame assembly (36, 38) is releasably connected to one end (84, 86) of the support beam (46) and is laterally moveable on the support beam (46). An endless track (48, 50), such as an elastomeric belt (60, 62), encircles a respective drive wheel (26, 28), roller frame assembly (36, 38), and idler wheel assembly (40, 42) on each side of the vehicle (10). By moving the track roller frame assembly (36, 38) and drive wheel (26, 28) laterally along the drive axle (22, 24) and support beam (46) respectively, various gage settings of the endless track (48, 50) are provided.

Abstract: In a crawler vehicle (10), a support bar (25) to main frame (12) connection is provided which has adequate shear strength and flexibility. The support bar (25) is shaped (50) in line with the main frame beams (38, 40) so that the main frame beams (38, 40) seat therein. The junctions between the support bar (25) and main frame beams (38, 40) are welded (54, 56) together. Angled plates (60) are fitted between each side (46, 48) of each main frame beams (38, 40) and the support bar (25), which angled plates (60) are welded (68) to the beams (38, 40) and to the hardbar (25). The angled plates (60) bridge (66) the longitudinal welds (54) between the support bar (25) and the beams (38, 40) of the main frame (12) to lend some flexibility to the junction therebetween.

Abstract: An oscillation limited driven steering track assembly includes a track mechanism coupled to and driven by a hydraulic motor. The motor is pivotally secured about a steering axis to a stub axle which partially supports a land vehicle. A longitudinally extensible and retractable apparatus extends between the track mechanism and the stub axle. One end of the apparatus is pivotally secured to a post secured to and extending from the track mechanism parallel with the motor shaft axis of rotation. A yoke is provided between the apparatus other end and pivotally secures the apparatus to the stub axle about the steering axis and, also, about a pivot axis perpendicular to the steering axis. Oscillation of the track mechanism about the motor shaft is limited by the apparatus. Simultaneously, the apparatus does not interfere with the track mechanism while the mechanism is rotated about the steering axis for steering the vehicle.
