Abstract: A diagnostic prediction system which includes an interface module and a diagnostic prediction module/engine. The interface module is configured to receive/retrieve information on one or more medicines prescribed, provided and/or administered to a patient. The diagnostic prediction module/engine is configured to predict one or more possible diagnoses by using a prediction algorithm/model which utilises one or more therapeutic qualities which is/are associated with the one or more medicines. Each possible diagnosis may be associated with, or relate to, one or more specific diagnosis/diagnostic codes. The diagnostic prediction module/engine may, more specifically, be a diagnostic coding prediction module/engine which is configured to predict one or more possible diagnoses and the appropriate diagnosis/diagnostic code(s) to correctly code the diagnosis, by using the prediction algorithm/model. The system may therefore be a diagnostic coding prediction system.

Abstract: This invention relates to a pickling process carried out in a pickling tank (11). Pickling solution comprising hydrochloric acid containing ferric chloride is removed from the pickling tank (11) hydrochloric acid is added to the pickling tank. The removed solution (12) is treated with sulphuric acid (22) to obtain a solution (24) comprising regenerated hydrochloric acid containing ferrous sulphate; obtaining a ferrous sulphate precipitate product (34); and recycling regenerated hydrochloric acid solution (16) to the pickling tank (11).

Abstract: This invention relates to a payload delivery mechanism suitable for use with a drone. The mechanism includes a load carrying and release mechanism which is displaceable between a retaining position, in which at least part of the payload is retained by the load carrying and release mechanism, and a release position, in which the at least part of the payload is releasable from the load carrying and release mechanism. The mechanism has a first release mode in which the load carrying and release mechanism is displaced from the retaining position to the release position by an actuator that is in use electrically actuated, and a second release mode in which the load carrying and release mechanism is displaced, against the bias exerted by the biasing element, from the retaining position to the release position when a predetermined maximum external load is exerted on the load carrying and release mechanism.

Abstract: This invention relates to an intervertebral fusion cage for insertion between vertebrae. The cage has a body defining a first, anterior portion, a second, posterior portion and a central portion extending between the anterior and posterior portions. The central portion may define a first surface which is, in use, a top surface and a second surface which is, in use, a bottom surface. The top and bottom surfaces may carry gripping formation for gripping end plates of the vertebrae. The gripping formations on the top and bottom surfaces preferably face substantially opposite directions such that the gripping formations on the top surface obstruct movement in a first direction while the gripping formations on the bottom surface obstruct movement in a second direction, which is substantially opposite the first direction.

Abstract: The invention relates to a taxon identification system for identifying a particular sample/specimen. The system includes an identification module which is configured to perform a canonical variates analysis (CVA) procedure by using reference data. The reference data is classified/divided into two or more taxon identification groups of which the sample/specimen may belong to/form part of. The identification module is configured, when implementing the CVA procedure, to (i) for each group, place/group sample data extracted from an image of the sample/specimen in the particular group in order to form a particular configuration and perform a CVA on the particular configuration in order to obtain mahalanobis distances between each group for that particular configuration; and (ii) identify the particular taxon group/species to which the sample/specimen belongs/forms part of, by utilising the calculated mahalanobis distances. The sample data and reference data may be morphometric landmark data.

Abstract: THIS invention relates to a method of disposing of residues from the comminution and processing of ores. The method includes the steps of classifying the processing residues into a water permeable sand fraction and a tailings fraction and depositing the tailings fraction and the sand fraction to form a multilayer structure contained by at least one containment wall (14) with the sand fraction forming continuous channels (12) through the tailings fraction (10) to allow water contained in the tailings and sand to flow by gravity, through the sand channels, to water discharge points (16), and recovering the water (18) from the water discharge points.

Abstract: The invention relates to a matrix-mediated algal cell culture system comprising a porous matrix, a microalgal cell culture comprising cells immobilised on the porous matrix, and a vector including a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heterologous polypeptide of interest, wherein immobilisation of microalgal cells on the porous matrix results in the formation of interstitial spaces between the microalgal cells to allow for increased contact of the microalgal cells with the vector compared with a culture of microalgal cells which are not immobilised on a porous matrix, thereby allowing for more efficient transfection of the microalgal cells with the vector. The invention also relates to methods of screening single species of microalgae and mixed ecology samples for the ability to be transfected using the algal cell culture system, and to methods for the production of heterologous polypeptides using the matrix-mediated cell culture system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of detecting the presence of an antibody to an avian influenza hemagglutinin antigen in a sample from a subject, wherein the antibody binds to an epitope of an avian influenza hemagglutinin antigen, comprising the steps of cloning a nucleic acid encoding an avian influenza antigen into a vector, infiltrating a plant cell with the vector, recovering the antigen from the plant, contacting the sample with the antigen, and detecting the formation of an antibody–antigen complex, wherein the antibody-antigen complex comprises antibodies in the sample bound to the antigen and wherein the formation of an antibody–antigen complex confirms that the subject has been exposed to an avian influenza hemagglutinin antigen. The present invention also relates to a device for assaying the presence of an antibody to avian influenza hemagglutinin antigen in a sample from a subject.
