Abstract:
Foamable compositions useful for deliquifying gas wells, particularly gas wells having at least 40 vol.% of a hydrocarbon condensate, are disclosed. The compositions comprise, in addition to the condensate, an aqueous brine and 250 to 10,000 ppm of a monounsaturated betaine or sulfobetaine. A method for deliquifying the production line of a natural gas well is also disclosed. The method comprises introducing into a gas well a monounsaturated betaine or sulfobetaine to form a foamed composition, and removing at least a portion of the foamed composition from the production line. Certain betaines and sulfobetaines are remarkably effective in producing foams useful for gas well deliquification, particularly gas wells characterized by high or very high condensate levels. The inventive compositions and method provide a cost-effective way to enable thousands of gas wells to be utilized more productively.
Abstract:
An aromatic polyester polyol having a nominal functionality of at least about 2 is produced from the esterification reaction of a phthalate-based composition containing less than 50 mol% of ortho-phthalic acid or phthalic anhydride, with a hydroxyl material containing at least 20 mol% of at least one branched aliphatic diol, and optionally transesterified with at least one hydrophobic material. The polyester polyol has improved shelf-life stability as demonstrated by the polyester polyol remaining clear and homogeneous for at least 6 months when stored at room temperature. The polyester polyol, when incorporated into a polyol foam-forming resin composition in an amount of at least 40 wt %, results in polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams that exhibit low smoke and weight loss upon burning conditions.
Abstract:
Sulfate and sulfonate derivatives of unsaturated fatty alcohols, processes for making them, and methods of using them are disclosed. In one aspect, a monounsaturated fatty alcohol composition is made by reducing a metathesis-derived monounsaturated alkyl ester. The fatty alcohol composition is then converted to a sulfate or sulfonate derivative by one or more of alkoxylation, sulfation, sulfonation, and sulfitation. Of particular interest are the sulfate and ether sulfate derivatives.
Abstract:
Surfactants and solvents containing derivatized adducts formed from Diels-Aider reactions of terpenes and unsaturated carboxylic acids or their derivatives are disclosed. Processes for making and derivatizing the Diels-Aider adducts are also disclosed. In some embodiments, the Diels-Aider adducts are prepared by reacting farnesene or myrcene with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its ester or anhydride. In other embodiments, the Diels-Aider adducts are prepared by reacting farnesene or myrcene with an unsaturated nitrile. The Diels-Aider adducts are then derivatized in a variety of ways to form the anionic, cationic, amine oxide, amphoteric or nonionic surfactants.
Abstract:
The present technology provides a process of reducing, removing or eliminating organohalo, glycidol, and oxirane species from carboxylic acid esters streams and crude and refined triglyceride oils to provide a carboxylic acid ester stream or triglyceride oil with reduced levels or essentially free of organohalo, glycidyl or other oxirane species. The process includes adding to the carboxylic acid ester stream or triglyceride oil an amount of a carboxylate anion and a cation counterion sufficient to react with the organohalo, glycidyl and oxirane species present.
Abstract:
Foaming light duty liquid detergent formulations that contain at least one cleaning solvent, at least one anionic surfactant and at least foam stabilizing surfactant are disclosed. The compositions of the presently described technology are useful for soil removal applications including, but not limited to, washing dishes by hand and cleaning bathroom and kitchen articles and/or surfaces.
Abstract:
A method of improving the mechanical strength of polyurethane foams made from bio-based polyols, the polyol-containing compositions utilized in the method of the invention, and the polyurethane foams produced by the method of the invention are provided. The method of the invention involves the incorporation of aromatic polyester polyol in the polyol-containing composition used to manufacture the foams. In one embodiment, the aromatic polyester polyol is utilized in a polyol-containing composition which is employed in the manufacture of flexible polyurethane foam. In another embodiment, the aromatic polyester polyol transesterified with a natural oil-containing composition to form a transesterification reaction product that is utilized in a polyol-containing composition which is employed in the manufacture of flexible polyurethane foam. Flexible polyurethane foams of the invention exhibit substantial improvements in mechanical strength properties, such as tear strength, tensile strength and elongation relative to foams made from bio-based polyols such as soybean oil-based polyols.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising sulfo-estolides and alkyl ester sulfonates are described. Detergent formulations, such as laundry detergents, softeners, and other materials, containing any of these materials are disclosed, as well as personal care formulations, hard surface cleaner formulations, and automatic dishwasher detergent formulations. Laundry methods employing these formulations are also disclosed. These formulations are useful as laundry detergents and can be biodegradable, heavy duty liquids, 2X or 3X and up to 6X concentrates, low foaming, and/or effective in a high efficiency washing machine. Methods for laundering fabrics with the compositions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Sulfo-estolides and methods of making them are described. Also described are phase-stable compositions formed from mixtures of different salts of sulfo-estolides, particularly mixtures of sodium and potassium salts of sulfo-estolides, and methods of obtaining phase-stable sulfo-estolide mixed salt compositions. The sulfo-estolide mixed salt compositions can be used in detergent formulations, such as laundry detergents, household, industrial and institutional cleaning formulations, and person care products.
Abstract:
