Abstract:
An orthopaedic device for repairing a portion of a body comprises an orthopaedic plate and a tissue protector. The orthopaedic plate is configured to attach to at least one bone. The tissue protector is securely attached to the orthopaedic plate and configured to at least partially detach from the orthopaedic plate after a force is applied to the tissue protector. The tissue protector includes a thinned region at a portion of the tissue protector proximate to the orthopaedic plate. A method of repairing parts of a body with an orthopaedic device having an orthopaedic plate and a tissue protector securely attached to the orthopaedic plate comprises placing the orthopaedic plate on at least one bone; fastening a fastener into the tissue protector and then the orthopaedic plate; and detaching the tissue protector from the orthopaedic plate after the fastener is completely fastened into the tissue protector and the orthopaedic plate.
Abstract:
An intervertebral implant assembly includes an implant member and a retention member. The implant member includes a body portion and an attaching portion. The body portion includes first and second surfaces adapted to engage first and second vertebral bodies, respectively. The attaching portion defines a first guide portion that leads into the first surface. The retention member is detachably coupled to the attaching portion of the implant member. In particular, the attaching portion of the implant member is at least partially disposed in the retention member. The retention member defines an access bore configured and dimensioned to receive a bone screw therein. The access bore is in communication with the first guide portion, whereby when the bone screw is inserted through the access bore the bone screw is directed to the first vertebral body through the first guide portion.
Abstract:
A bone screw comprising a sleeve, a shaft reciprocally received within the sleeve, and a compressive device is disclosed. The bone screw may be extended, placing a fracture in tension, after insertion into a bone and then retained in place by a setscrew that is retained by an intramedullary rod. The shaft of the bone screw may have a blade thread that allows the bone screw to be installed into a bone by tapping the bone screw with a hammer.
Abstract:
A bone stabilization system is provided having a plate with a top and bottom surface and a hole therethrough extending along a longitudinal axis. An annular groove in the top surface encircles the axis and defines outer facing sides of a plurality of spring members integral to the plate. A plurality of slots define sides of the spring members the inward facing side of the spring members form the upper portion of the hole, which includes a first spherical portion. A fastener with a spherical portion on the fastener head extends into the hole with the spring members urged apart to allow the head to pass but restraining removal until the resistance provide by the spring members is overcome.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a sleeve for an osteosynthesis device and to an osteosynthesis device incorporating such a sleeve. The present invention allows to easily and safely remove the osteosynthesis device from a patient's body, without the risk of damages or lesions. According to the invention, thanks to the fact that the matching between the screws (30) and the sleeves (10) receiving said screws is based upon the conicity of the head of the screws (30) and of the through-hole of the sleeves (10), a little rotation of the screws (30) in the unscrewing direction immediately releases the screws from the respective sleeves; thanks to the fact that the matching between the sleeves (10) and the osteosynthesis plate (20) is based upon the conicity of the outer surface of said sleeves (10) and of the through-bores of the plate (20) receiving said sleeves, a little rotation of the sleeves (10) in the unscrewing direction immediately releases the sleeves from the plate.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A bone stabilization device which permits a user to drill one or more holes at a desired location and trajectory for insertion of a fastener. The stabilization device may comprise a bone plate, a locking plate, an intermedullary rod, and/or an artificial vertebrae. The stabilization device may comprise a portion of penetrable material, such as polyetheretherketone or other inert material.
Abstract:
A bone screw comprising a sleeve and a shaft reciprocally received within the sleeve. The bone screw may be partially or fully extended prior to insertion into a bone by inserting a driver into a longitudinal opening in the sleeve to push the shaft out of the sleeve. The bone screw may be used in connection with a locking plate or other stabilization device. The sleeve of the bone screw may have a smooth proximal end. The proximal end may have a wider diameter than the main body of the sleeve so as to sit within a counter bore in the locking plate. A threaded set screw may be used to secure the bone screw within the locking plate.
Abstract:
A surgical system comprising an object to be secured to bone, the object comppsing an opening extending there through and a sleeve/expander construction for securing the object to bone, the sleeve/expander construction comppsing a sleeve adapted for positioning through the opening in the object and into the bone, the sleeve comppsing a shank having a distal end and a proximal end and an opening extending from the distal end to the proximal end, wherein the opening narrows toward the distal end of the shank, and further wherein the distal end of the shank is slit so as to form a plurality of radially-expandable segments, and an enlarged head formed at the proximal end of the shank the enlarged head being formed so as to be radially-expandable
Abstract:
A locking mechanism assembly to allow locking of a fastener in an orthopedic implant having its axis at a variable angle relative to the axis of a threaded through opening in the implant. The assembly includes a convexly rounded ring shaped locking insert which mates with the through opening. The head of the fastener includes a concentric flange that engages the locking ring into a locking relationship with the threads of the opening as the fastener is tightened into position. Preferably the locking ring is integral with the head of the fastener. The locking ring is made from a material that is more deformable than the material of the plate.
