Abstract:
Software systems, arrangements and processes for evaluating an image associated with at least one portion of an anatomical structure are provided. For example, first information associated with the at least one portion of the anatomical structure second information associated with the at least one portion of the anatomical structure can be received. Third information can be generated by determining a relationship between the first information and the second information. Further, the image can be evaluated using a predetermined pathological scoring criteria and the third information.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a transdermal analyte monitoring system comprising a medium adapted to interface with a biological membrane and to receive an analyte from the biological membrane and an electrode assembly comprising a plurality of electrodes, wherein the medium is adapted to react continuously with the analyte, an electrical signal is detected by the electrode assembly, and the electrical signal correlates to an analyte value. The analyte value may be the flux of the analyte through the biological membrane or the concentration of the analyte in a body fluid of a subject. The medium may comprise a vinyl acetate based hydrogel, an agarose based hydrogel, or a polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEG-DA) based hydrogel, for example. The surface region of the electrode may comprise pure platinum. The system may include an interference filter located between the biological membrane and the electrode assembly for reducing interference in the system. The system may comprise a processor programmed to implement an error correction method that corrects for sensor drift.
Abstract:
A method and device for collecting immunoglobulins and other analytes from the oral cavity for immunological and other testing. The device is a treated absorbent pad used to collect a specimen having a high concentration of immunoglobulins or other analytes. The specimen can be subjected to a basic immunological testing technique which can be used as a tool for screening a patient for diseases. A test kit is also provided.
Abstract:
The apparatus for the self-control of the overall male urogenital tract's health consist in a set of tools that permit a man to control by himself his urogenital tract's health through the assessment of his semen parameters. Such a set of tools is the one consisting in a sheet of paper with instructions about the process and use, a pipette for the assessment of the volume, the liquefaction, the homogeneity, the color, the odor and the viscosity of semen liquid and in a pH-meter for the assessment of the semen pH. This apparatus permits a user without special laboratory equipment, scientific knowledge and/or special training to assess the physicochemical characteristics of his semen, following a simple process, which he can conduct by himself, in the comfort and discretion of his personal space, in order to perceive any indications that might be related to a pathological condition of his urogenital tract and seek consultation from an urologist.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A self-administered tamper-evident drug detection system. The system includes a biometric detection surface for each of a user's right and left hands, configured to identify the user and prevent tamper by continuously capturing biometric information from each of the user's right and left hands while the system is administering a drug detection test. The system further includes a collection device to administer the drug detection test by exposing a sample collection device to a user's mouth to collect a saliva sample.
Abstract:
A urinary directional device for improving the directional urination and health of a male user is provided, in which the device comprises a conduit for the passage of urine and having a proximal end adapted for engagement with the penis of the user and a distal end having a distal aperture to enable the passage of urine from the conduit, the device having an interior surface providing one or more of a cleansing, an anti-bacterial or antiseptic or an anti-fungal function whereby the penis of the user can be cleansed by wiping on the interior surface of the device after urination and the device further comprising a health detection indicator capable of indicating abnormalities in urine indicative of disease or health-related conditions.
Abstract:
A medical device for reducing the force necessary to penetrate living being tissue using a variety of reciprocating motion actuators, including piezoelectric, voice coil, solenoids, pneumatics or fluidics. The reciprocating actuator drives a penetrating member, such as a needle, through the tissue at a reduced force while the device detects the passage of the penetrating member through the tissue. Upon passage of the penetrating member through the tissue, electrical power to the reciprocating actuator is automatically terminated. One exemplary method for detecting this passage is via a fluid-containing syringe that is coupled to a channel within the penetrating member. Once the penetrating member tip has passed through the living tissue, the fluid within the syringe no longer experiences any pressure and a plunger within the syringe displaces indicating passage of the penetrating member tip. This motion can provide direct tactile feedback to an operator of the medical device or can automatically open a switch providing electrical power to the medical device. Alternatively, a pressure transducer can also monitor the pressure within the penetrating member channel and automatically activate the switch to cut off the electrical power.
