The invention provides a computer-implemented authentication method comprising the step of enabling a user to input an identifier (e.g. a PIN) into an electronic device having a screen and a keypad operable within a keypad zone of the screen; by operating at least one key of the keypad via an image of at least part of a scrambled keypad which is displayed at least partially within the keypad zone. The user's operation of the keypad key via the image generates an encoded version of the user's intended input. In one sense the invention can be perceived as superimposing a non-functional image of a scrambled keyboard over an underlying, functional keypad. The image may be any type of electronic image, and may include a video image. The invention is particularly suited for use with, but not limited to, mobile phones, tablet computer, PCs etc. It can be implemented in any system wherein a user's identity must be verified before access is granted to a controlled resource.

An apparatus and method including a multi-touch interface for card gaming includes providing a multi-touch interface for displaying a card having a hidden value. The method includes detecting a touch on the interface. The touch has a curved pattern with multiple points of contact with the interface. The curved pattern is indicative of the lateral edge of a human hand in contact with the interface, oriented to hide the card from others. The method then detects movement of the multiple points of contact sweeping over a portion of the interface to reveal the value of the card to the user.

The present invention relates to a PIN pad capable of self-detecting unauthorized the attachment/detachment thereof and to a PIN pad security method using the same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a PIN pad capable of self-detecting the unauthorized attachment/detachment thereof, and to a PIN pad security method using the same, in which a random key storage memory (SRAM) with predetermined random keys stored therein is installed within a PIN pad arranged in an automatic teller machine, and a switch of a battery for supplying power to the random key storage memory is automatically opened when the PIN pad is detached from the automatic teller machine, whereby automatically deleting the values of the random keys stored in the random key storage memory upon the detachment of the key pad, thus sensing the attachment/detachment of the key pad in a real time basis by comparison of the values of the random keys. The PIN pad capable of self-detecting the unauthorized attachment/detachment thereof according to the present invention comprises: a random key storage memory in which random keys are stored separately from each other; a main memory in which random keys and financial transaction processing information data are stored; a battery connected to the random key storage memory to supply power; and a CPU which generates random keys and stores the generated random keys into the random key storage memory and into the main memory. The connection of the battery to the random key storage memory is automatically controlled in accordance with the attachment/detachment of the PIN pad. The CPU compares random keys of the random key storage memory and of the main memory in a real time basis to sense the attachment/detachment of the PIN pad.

The multimode system (100) is adapted to operate in a high security mode and a low security mode. The multimode system (100) is adapted to enter the low security mode upon detection by the multimode system (100) of a security breach condition. In the high security mode, the secure input module (115) accepts low security input and high security input. In the low security mode, the secure input module (115) accepts the low security input and does not accept the high security input.

A method of conducting secure electronic credit payments to a payment acquirer using a credit payment unit, comprising of a smart card, a portable card reader device and a mobile phone, and a payment server. The method is based on using a unique reader key in the card reader device to encrypt all the sensitive smart card information communicated to the payment server, and thus being able to use an unsecure mobile phone to communicate with the payment server. The payment server then completes the transaction with the payment acquirer over a secure line.

A system and method for displaying information at a fuel dispenser comprises an electrophoretic display that may be configured to operate in low temperature environments. The fuel dispenser may comprise a keypad located beneath the electrophoretic display in order to present a graphical user interface to a customer and receive the customer's selections. The fuel dispenser may comprise additional electrophoretic displays to present additional information to the consumer.
