Abstract:
Abstract:
A privacy apparatus adds a privacy sound based on a speaker's own voice into the environment, thereby confusing listeners as to which of the sounds is the real source. This permits disruption of the ability to understand the source speech of the user by eliminating segregation cues that the auditory system uses to interpret speech. The privacy apparatus minimizes segregation cues. The privacy apparatus is relatively quiet and thus easily acceptable in a typical open floor design office space. The privacy apparatus contains an A/D converter that converts the speech into a digital signal, a DSP that converts the digital signal into a privacy signal with pre-recorded speech fragments of the person speaking, a D/A converter that converts the privacy signal into an output signal and one or more loudspeakers from which the output signal is emitted.
Abstract:
A Radio Frequency based security system for providing security for wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) that allows the creation and maintenance of arbitrarily shaped secure wireless access areas with boundaries around said wireless Local Area Network and prevents access to the said wireless LAN from outside the perimeter of the secure area. The system includes a plurality of perimeter Radio Frequency Sentry Devices (RFSDs) that are employed to establish the boundaries of said secure area around said wireless LAN. The wireless LAN being secured may be an industry standard IEEE 802.11 a, 801.11 b or 802.11 g based wireless LAN or any other wireless LAN that uses packet based communication protocols. The said RFSDs may be stand-alone devices or they may be connected to a wired or wireless Local Area Network. This radio frequency based security system may also be employed to create arbitrarily shaped "no-WLAN" areas whereby any wireless networking device within said "no-WLAN" area will be unable to access any wireless LAN that might be in operation outside the boundary of the secure area.
Abstract:
The system (10) includes a generator (20), a first device (30), a second device (40), and a third device (50) that are located at vertices of the area to be protected. The first device (30) has a receive antenna (32), a transmit antenna (34), an antenna unit (36) and a programmable feed unit (38) that is coupled between the antenna unit (36) and the generator (20). The second devise (40) and the third device (5) are configured similarly to the first device (30). The system (10) relates to the jamming of triggering devices that are used with improvised explosive devices.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for transmitting a narrow signal beam that allows the precise location of RFID tags to be determined and reduces tag collisions. The present invention further relates to a method and apparatus for combing an RFID reader with an optical source to visualize the interrogation zone of the reader. The present invention also relates to a method and apparatus for improving the efficiency of RFID systems.
Abstract:
A sound masking system according to the invention is disclosed in which one or more sound masking loudspeaker assemblies (410) are coupled to one or more electronic sound masking signal generators (410). The loudspeaker assemblies (410) in the system of the invention have a low directivity index and preferably emit an acoustic sound masking signal that has a sound masking spectrum specifically designed to provide superior sound masking in an open plan office. Each of the plurality of loudspeaker assemblies (410) is oriented to provide the acoustic sound masking signal in a direct path into the predetermined area in which masking sound is needed. In addition, the sound masking system of the invention can include a remote control function by which a user can select from a plurality of stored sets of information for providing from a recipient loudspeaker assembly an acoustic sound masking signal having a selected sound masking spectrum.
Abstract:
A system and method of masking an objectionable artifact in a mobile telephone. The process starts by referring to the design characteristics of the mobile phone to determine the expected level and source of objectionable artifacts that will be apparent during operation of the mobile phone. The noise necessary to mask the objectionable artifact is then calculated. The masking noise signal is then created within the mobile telephone and superimposed over the objectionable artifact. The masking noise signal is typically created in a digital signal processor (DSP) resident within the mobile telephone using a pseudo-noise generator. The masking noise signal can be stored as a look-up table in the digital signal processor (DSP) of the mobile telephone. To further enhance the effectiveness of the masking process, the masking noise signal is filtered to best match the objectionable artifact.
Abstract:
The subject invention discloses a jammer for jamming at low power radio transmission/reception by wireless communication units such as cellular phones so that communications over said wireless communication units are interfered. A jammer in accordance with the subject invention comprises an oscillator for generating oscillating signal having a fixed frequency; an up converter for multiplying the frequency of said oscillating signal from said oscillator to up-convert it to one or more desired frequencies; power-on resetting means for resetting said up converter when said jammer is porwered on; one or more band extending means for extending the frequency band of output signal from said up converter; one or more power amplifier for amplifying output signal from said band extending means to a jammable level; and one or more antenna connected with each of said amplifiers.
