The present invention relates to a multi-layer, flexible thermal insulator for pipes and tubes and method of application thereof. The innermost layer is a stainless-steel wire mesh (101) and is exposed to the said conduit or tube carrying the heated substances. The outermost layer (104) which is temperature-resistant, anti-corrosion, high strength, durable and with longer life-expectancy is composed of aluminium or graphite or silicone coated fibre glass. The system may comprise additionally a plurality of comprising at least one layer comprising silica fibre (102) and one layer comprising ceramic fibre blanket (103). The thermal insulator also comprises a clamp (106) and guide pocket (105) to lock the layers of the insulator together.

The invention relates to pre-insulated components for heating, air-conditioning and water supply installations, which consist of an inner pipe (2) with an outer sheath (4), wherein between them a suitable insulating material (3) is arranged. On the outer sheath holes (5) are provided, which are sealed by caps, so that injection of insulating material (3) may be performed as required. The pre-insulated components are screwed between them or have male and female buttons. As materials for the pipe (2) and the sheath (4), poly(vinyl chloride), polypropylene, polyethylene, polyolefins, cupper or iron may be employed. As insulation, polyurethane or any other swellable insulating material may be employed. In this way, pre-insulated angular fittings, pre-insulated collectors (1) or other connection components may be manufactured.

The thermally insulating pipes allow the substance traveling through the pipes to retain their heat during transport. The thermally insulating pipes may include one or more layers each of pipe and insulating material, which are overlapping and alternating in the thermally insulating pipe. An outer pipe layer is also provided on the thermally insulating pipe, which may have an increased thickness for threading, splicing or swedging the thermally insulating pipe.

The invention provides an insulation material comprising a thermoset composition. Such thermosets are the reaction product of an ambient temperature liquid epoxy-terminated prepolymer, a short chain polyalkylene glycol diglycidyl ether, optionally a second epoxy and/or a filler, and a curing agent comprising at least one amine or polyamine. Said reaction product provides a thermoset which has polyurethane like processing and flexibility with good thermal and hydrolytic stability and improved toughness and strength. The insulation material is particularly useful as thermal insulation and coating for subsea oil and gas applications.
