Abstract:
Gluten-degrading proteases derived from insects, including flour beetles, are isolated, and the purified, and recombinant forms can be used to make gluten-containing food safe for patients suffering from gluten intolerance.
Abstract:
The present invention provides for compositions, methods and kits for regulating energy metabolism. In one aspect, the invention provides for compositions that comprise a combination of (a) branched chain amino acids, such as leucine, and (b) vitamin B6, or any precursors or metabolites of (a) or (b). These combinations may be synergistic and/or effective for reducing weight or adipose volume. In another aspect, the invention provides for methods of regulating energy metabolism by the administration of one or more compositions comprising branched chain amino acids and vitamin B6. The invention also provides for kits comprising compositions of branched chain amino acids and vitamin B6 packaged in an oral dose form with usage instructions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method to induce maturation of an immature GI-tract, such as intestine, e.g. small intestine, the method comprising the steps of administering a mixture of enzymes to the immature GI-tract, said enzymes having a pancreatic activity or action, and/or pancreatic like activity or action, and analysing the maturation process of the GI-tract to monitor said maturation process. Provided herein are also uses and kits to provide for GI-tract maturation.
Abstract:
A composition and method for treating mastitis by the use of an effective amount of at least one lytic specific for the bacteria causing the disease. The lytic enzyme is genetically coded for by a bacteriophage which may be specific for said bacteria. The enzyme may be at least one lytic protein or peptides in a natural or modified form.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses compositions and methods for enhancing the effect (e.g., duration) of a neurotoxin treatment. The compositions herein include neurotoxins and neuron growth inhibitors. Such compositions are administered locally to treat or prevent conditions, such as dermatological conditions, urological conditions, thyroid conditions, optical conditions, and neurological conditions.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns farnesylamine derivatives, compositions containing these compounds, and methods of using these compounds and compositions as inhibitors of røs-mediated signal transduction and inhibitors of aberrant cell growth, e.g., as anti-cancer agents, as well as anti-fungal agents. Other non-malignant diseases characterized by proliferation of cells that may be treated using the farneylamine derivatives of the include, but are not limited to, cirrhosis of the liver; graft rejection; restenosis; and disorders characterized by a proliferation of T cells such as autoimmune diseases, e.g., type 1 diabetes, lupus and multiple sclerosis.
Abstract:
Preferred embodiments of the present invention relate to proteolytic enzyme formulations. More specifically, several embodiments relate a proteolytic formulation comprising fungal protease, papain, bromelain, fungal pancreatin, nattokinase, protease-S, amylase, lipase, rutin, ginger, and CMIK-pH, to facilitate digestion, metabolism, degradation of target compounds, and systemic enzymatic action.
Abstract:
In general, the present invention provides methods for treating disorders associated with the amygdala. The methods of treatment are based on the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of secretin to an individual suffering from a disorder associated with the amygdala, e.g., bipolar disorder or a substance use disorder.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises methods and compositions for the reduction of oxalate in humans. For example, the invention provides methods and compositions for the delivery of one or more oxalate-reducing enzymes embedded in particle compositions. The compositions of the present invention are suitable in methods of treatment or prevention of oxalate-related conditions including, but not limited to, hyperoxaluria, absorptive hyperoxaluria, enteric hyperoxaluria, primary hyperoxaluria, idiopathic calcium oxalate kidney stone disease (urolithiasis), vulvodynia, oxalosis associated with end-stage renal disease, cardiac conductance disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery and bariatric surgery (surgery for obesity), and/or who have undergone antibiotic treatment.
Abstract:
A method of pharmaceutically managing snoring and impaired breathing is provided. This invention relates to treating snoring, sleep apnea, and other forms of sleep-disordered breathing in those with or without symptoms of or the diagnosis of gastro-intestinal reflux disease (GERD). It comprises administration of a therapeutically effective dose of Prevacid (Lansoprazole) or any other medication that can be used to treat symptoms of hyper-acidity or gastro-intestinal reflux disease (GERD). The therapeutic medication may be used alone or in combination with other pharmacologic agents or mechanical modalities including but not limited to decongestants, antihistamines or mechanical nasal toilet. It also is of benefit in improving breathing disorders that are present while awake.
