Apparatus for compression molding plastic articles includes a plurality of molds mounted for travel around a first axis. Each mold includes an upper mold section and a lower mold section, with at least one of the upper and lower mold sections being moveable in a non-circular first endless path, and being moveable with respect to the other mold section to form a mold cavity. A mold charge delivery system delivers individual mold charges to the mold cavities and includes at least one delivery mechanism that travels in a second endless path around a second axis spaced from the first axis, wherein the second endless path overlies a portion of the first endless path.

A system (10) for transporting preforms to an oven starwheel (14) of a blowmolding manufacturing facility includes a transport mechanism (18) that is constructed and arranged to be able to hold at least one plastic preform member, a first sensor (20) for sensing a transport speed of the oven starwheel (14), and a controller (22) for controlling movement of the transport mechanism (18). The controller (22) receives input from the first sensor (20) so that it may instruct the transport mechanism (18) to transport a preform to the oven starwheel (14) at a speed that will closely match the speed of the oven starwheel. The controller (22) is also programmed to instruct the transport mechanism (18) to receive preforms from a supply of preforms at a speed that is less than the speed of the oven starwheel. This reduces the potential for jamming at the interface between the preform supply and the transport mechanism.

The invention concerns a method and device for transferring blanks in the region of a device for blow-moulding containers (26) from a thermoplastic material. A preform is first delivered to a heater device (8) for tempering and then at least to a blowing station (12) in order to be blow-moulded. The blanks are held by a gripper arrangement (22) along at least part of their path of travel. The gripper arrangement (22) is positioned on a telescopic carrier arm (18). By telescoping the carrier arms (18) by different amounts, the blanks can be associated with at least two different pick-ups.

An apparatus and a method for processing doses, in particular multi¬ layer doses, for the purpose of obtaining objects made of polymeric material (e.g. closure caps) through compression moulding. The apparatus comprises: • - a co-extrusion device (3) for extruding a multi-layer structure having at least one primary layer (4) and at least one secondary layer (5), so that the multi-layer structure leaves the co-extrusion device (3) along an exit direction (X), • - a mould (7) provided with a pair of elements (8, 9), at least one of said elements (8, 9) being movable towards the other in a moulding direction (Y), so as to compression mould an object from a multi¬ layer dose (2) which was severed from the multi-layer structure; • - a transport device (6) for carrying the laminar dose (2) towards the mould (7); • - means for modifying orientation of the dose (2) while the dose (2) is being transported by the transport device (6), so that the dose (2) is introduced into the mould (7) with an orientation in which the secondary layer (5) extends transversely to the moulding direction (Y).

An apparatus for placing a mold charge (532) into a mold (52) of a compression molding machine includes a carrier (500) mounted for rotation around a first axis, at least one arm (506) mounted on the carrier for rotation around a second axis at an angle to the first axis, and a mold charge pick-up cup (518) on the arm for receiving a mold charge, transporting the mold charge and placing the mold charge into a mold of the compression molding machine. A cam (528) is carried in stationary position adjacent to the carrier surrounding the first axis, and a cam follower (524, 526 or 602 or 632) is operatively coupled to the arm in engagement with the cam for rotating the arm and the mold charge pick-up cup around the second axis as the carrier is rotated around the first axis. The second axis of rotation of the arm preferably is perpendicular to the first axis of rotation of the carrier, and the cam and follower preferably are such that the mold charge pick-up cup is oriented horizontally to receive a mold charge and oriented vertically to deposit the mold charge in the mold of the compression molding machine. A control valve (550) preferably is carried for selective application of vacuum and air under pressure through a passage in the arm to the mold charge pick-up cup to assist in pick-up, transport and deposit of the mold charge into the mold.
