Abstract:
A thermoset composite material and composite railroad crosstie fabricated from the thermoset composite material that comprises a substantially homogeneous blend of an amount of vulcanized rubber particles, polyurea binding agent and urea melamine. The thermoset composite material may also contain a granulated silica material. The thermoset composite material may comprise about 30% to about 50% by weight of the vulcanized rubber particles, and it is subjected to compression molding at a predetermined temperature and pressure for a resident time period forming the composite railroad crosstie. The thermoset composite material and railroad crosstie may further comprise a fibrous glass material in the form of unbundled fibers and/or one more glass mats encapsulated within the thermoset composite material. In addition or alternatively, an elongated core insert may be encapsulated in the thermoset composite material.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of producing a direct compression tablet composition comprising the step of processing ibuprofen, a hydrophilic polymer, and an inorganic excipient by an extrusion process to produce an extruded composition in which the ibuprofen forms a solid dispersion/solution within the hydrophilic polymer. The invention is particularly useful in preparing oral dissolvable tablets. Also provided are composition comprising an inorganic excipient and ibuprofen within a hydrophilic polymer.
Abstract:
Particular embodiments of the invention include a closed-loop tread strip forming unit (100) and methods for forming tread strips using a closed-loop unit. Embodiments of such forming units include a tread strip extruder (110) located at a pre-cure end of the closed-loop tread strip forming unit. Such units include an uncured tread strip handling assembly (120) configured to transport the first uncured tread strip from the first tread strip extruder and to a first tread strip mold member (130). The unit further includes a curing press (150) having an inlet and an outlet, a pre-cure mold handling assembly (140) configured to insert the loaded tread strip mold member into the curing press, a post-cure mold handling assembly (160) configured to receive the loaded tread strip mold member from the outlet of the curing press, a return assembly (170) configured to transfer the first tread strip mold member to the pre-cure end to complete a closed-loop.
Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed for forming annular doses of plasticised material supplied from an extruder, in which the doses are applied to a surface of a capsule and the seals of the capsules are then compression-formed; the apparatus comprises one tubular wall that has a longitudinal axis and is axially movable for closing an annular outlet from which the plasticised material exits with a component that is normal to the longitudinal axis, the tubular wall having a cutting edge that shears the plasticised material during the closing movement in such a manner as to separate the annular dose, which forms outside the outlet, from the material that remains inside the outlet.
Abstract:
Composite polymeric comprising, in order, first, second, and third polymeric layers. The first layer is compositionally different than the second layer. The third layer is compositionally different than the second layer. The second layer comprises an array of void spaces therein, but not through the first and second major surfaces. The void spaces each have a series of areas through the void spaces ranging from minimum to maximum areas. The minimum area is not adjacent to either the first or third layer. Methods for making the composite polymeric layers are also disclosed. Polymeric layers described herein are useful, for example, as components in personal care garments such as diapers and feminine hygiene products. They can also be useful for filtering (including liquid filtering) and acoustic applications.
Abstract:
Methods of making tires with features such as ribs, lugs, or tread blocks include shaping at least one feature onto an uncured tire tread prior to vulcanization. One aspect of these methods may include shaping a feature onto the tread while the tread is associated with the tire. Shaping devices may include shaping rollers, stitching rollers, pre-molds, and annular, curved, or flat stamping plates. An additional aspect of these methods may further reduce the amount of air between a tread and carcass prior to vulcanization. These methods may be used in conjunction with manufacturing processes used on various types of tires, and are particularly suitable for use in large tire manufacturing processes.
